Calling Carmageddon a racing game is pretty generous. As I recall you couldn't actually ever lose the race (just run out of time). Still, if they update this game and add a real racing mechanic I'd be curious to check it out.

Byshop

You could definitely lose in the traditional sense ( finishing last ), but there were other ways to win like destroying all other opponents.

When speaking of racing games in general I tend to consider realistic car physics and handling as the most important elements in such games. This is why, for me , Carmageddon is up there with the best.

Some more racing game with awesome physics:

- Viper Racing (1998 ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ajLa91SASQ

- All titles by Codemasters, Colin McRae, Dirt, Grid etc

Carmaggedon deserves to be remade with updated technology. I think it's one of the most original racing games out there. I remember the awesome car physics where you could crash your car in crazy ways and even split it in half. It's much better than any other similar titles like Twisted Metal or the more recent Racing/Zombie killing game ( can't remember the name).

If they are going through with this I'd really like to see the following fundamental elements:

- A variety of vehicles ranging from standard racers to huge truck and metallic abominations.

- Realistic car destruction that evolves what SSI did with previous games. Car shape and weight affects it behavior, size of wheel also affect grip and handling. Crashing truly breaks the car apart ( There is hardly anything like it today ). The car can split in half on three axis!

- Huge cities with population to run over and kill in fun ways.

- Perks such as the awesome springs, electros, nitros, gravity changers etc

- Make it violent, in a serious way. Decapitation, Dismemberment, Disembowelment, Smearing body parts on the road etc

Here's a vid with some nostalgic gameplay:

Just out of curiosity, have you ever tried Steam? What do you think of it? ( The service, not the store/sales ).

Here's how I see things:

A great FPS doesn't need RPG/RTS elements in it to be better for the same reason a shark doesn't need legs to hunt better. They are just perfect that way, they don't need to evolve drastically to be better.

All the games you mentioned focus on the fundamentals of what makes good FPS, and they make sure to always bring those basics to the next generation with top-notch production values and minor tweaks to the formula.

I think WoW just might not be for you, you should check out EVE online! It's really casual and they have a 2 week (I think 2 weeks) free trial!MCL0789

Hope you were just being sarcastic about EVE being "casual". If he can't handle WOW, he'll be destroyed in EVE.

[QUOTE="Majd_Abdulqadir"]Age of Empires Online is a proper RTS game, with actual base building and real time unit tactics, you should try it: http://ageofempiresonline.com/ If you want something along the lines of Travian, you can try: - Evony: http://www.evony.com/ - Heroes ( of Might and Magic ) Kingdoms: http://mightandmagicheroeskingdoms.ubi.com/en/ - Ikariam: http://en.ikariam.com/ I hate those things, they feel more like a "click-fest" rather than a proper strategy game.ZogTheIneffable

I shall check out Age of Empires.

"Something along the lines of Travian" is what I do *not* need ;-) - I wasn't impressed by Evony either :-/

Thanks!

Yeah, someone should put officially ban those games from using the term "game" in them :D

You know what my biggest problem with WOW was? The quests, 90% of them were "Fetch/Kill X amount of Y within Z". They were dull, meaningless, and felt more like a chore than a quest. I'm playing Elder Scrolls: Oblivion all over again now ( waiting for Skyrim ) and I'm amazed at how well the quests are in this game. They are all intriguing and the actions you make are meaningful in the context of the quest. There are very few ( less than 20% of quests where you just need to Fetch/Kill stuff ).
