One of the best FPS games to come out in the last few years. The combat system alone is worth it, and the scavenging/crafting aspects add alot of depth to it. Get it now.

btw I played it alone and had a blast. I'm pretty sure it would twice as much fun if you got some friends to coop with.

I'm really urging for a game with the following in it:

Freeroaming space exploration (as in Frontier), planets to land on (Starflight), new alien species (ranging from one-celled organisms to advanced cultures)to discover and study (X-Com), custom spaceships, mining & trading, gravity, lightspeed N' black holes, space combat, getting out of the spaceship and walking around and jetpacks, a female-voiced boardcomputer with an attitude and an extraterrestrial organism that symbiotically enhances my character...

If this game exists, please let me know.

If not, feel free to add stuff to the wishlist.

Johnny_Rock

It does not.

It exists... sort of... well, at least two thirds of what you're asking for, but it looks INCREDIBLE so far. It's called Infinity, and it's still in the making: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3muhlQYFgLE&feature=related official site: http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=33 I almost cried when I first saw it.

So is this like international-game-development-bad-news-day or something?

First STALKER and now this?

In truth I don't feel very sorry for the Witcher dev (never liked it really) but more for THQ who seem to be losing just in a time when they're in dire need of a good franchise to pull them out of their financial woes.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is one of the most original FPS games to be made in the last decade, alongside Dead Island and very few other titles. It would truly be a shame if we lived in a world where the only successful franchises were made by big studios with little to no interest in pushing the envelope of gaming beyond the occasional killstreak...

Anyone else who miss the days when you just had to put in the disc and play?

flipin_jackass

Hell no.

Speaking of discs, I definetly "miss" the days when you only had to open your cd case and discover it's not even there, then go through your whole cd library looking for that game just to discover that one of your nephews decided to borrow it without your permission.

No, having all my games in one personal account is much better IMO.

"Blizzard's" Starcraft series is untouchable, the other games can only be popular, nothing more, like the C&C series used to be.DanielDust

A certain Company of Heroes begs to differ, but to each his own. IMO StarCraft lost its way when it became a "sport" (sort of comparable to how the Call of Duty franchise is now trying to become an American national sport ). SC may be popular, but it's nowhere near as good as COH.

Then take a look at what I heard in October:

Anticipated dungeon crawler Torchlight 2 has a minor update to its launch window, with Runic telling RunicGamesFanSite.com that the title is expected to launch during November or December ... unless "someone on the team dies."

So, one of them died? :o

Gladestone1

No, Skyrim came out.

I think they were suprised by the overwhelming popularity of the current ES title, and they thought ( rightly so ) that it would negatively affect their sales regarless of their own game's quality. I think it's a good move, they should wait to a time when no other major RPG is released.

This is going to be a hard thing to do..With a new ip out in jan called kingdom of alamur, mass effect 3 around the bend..What time do they have next sept, oct??Diablo 3 will also be out next year..So that window with no major rpg coming out will close..Also bioshock infinite, Aliens do out next year as well..We still have small titles that will get announced..Next year will be a big year for games as well..Where is this window you speak of..

No doubt, it's very hard for small studios to go against these giants, but they're going to have to do their best.

Kingdoms of Amalur (February 10 release?) is not that much of a threat so far (at least hype-wise), even though it's got the lead designer of Elder Scrolls 3 and 4 behind it, along with R.A Salvatore's writing. Mass Effect 3 should be released sometime in March, so I'd go for a January release fingers crossed.

So far I spent 92 hours with Skyrim, and no matter what nostalgic thoughts I may have of previous iterations, this is by far the best one yet.

I'll put it this way, if you let a person who never played any ES game before try all the games from 1 to 5, s/he will most likely choose Skyrim as the best of the lot. The rest is just nostalgia clouding our judgment.

"...they could easily set it up..."

Multiplyer is one of the most difficult things to develop and it requires alot of resources from the company. It's better that they focus on the single player aspect which is huge work anyway.

Though the concept itself is great, maybe we could have a mod or a DLC which allows for limited PvP or co-op interactions in the future. I had a similar idea for a jousting arena btw...
