I'm a big halo fan, believe me if you want to, it's your choice. I do believe that the Halo series is one of the best out there.
It takes Bungie about 3 years to finish a game at the least. They've only been working on Halo 3 for 2 years. I have a feeling that the only reason Bungie is trying to get the game finished by the holidays is because of Microsoft's desperate attempt to make money this holiday season. I don't think that Bungie is truly as finished with that game as they would like to be. If you're a true fan of Halo, you would agree.
You wouldn't care how much it sells. You wouldn't care if it is better than the competition's game lineup. All you would care about is if the game is good. All you would care about is if Bungie has made a game that lives up to the gameplay and story telling of the first 2 games.
I thought Halo 1 and 2 were some of the best games I've ever played and I am looking forward to halo 3. But I wouldn't care if it came out this holiday season or not. Why? Because I'd rather have Bungie delay the game and make a masterpiece, then release the game just so it gets out this holiday season, when the game is not as good as it could of been had they released it when it's finished.
That's all I have to say on this matter.

1. There is a press conference trans-script on microsoft.com that clearly states that Halo 3 was being developed along side Halo 2. This document was used to prove the existence of Halo 3 when Bungie was quiet about it pre-announce trailer, you might have seen a lot of links to it around that time.
2. Bungie is on track with Halo 3 and they are the ones who set the release date.
3. Halo 3 IS almost finished. All that they have left to do is to polish it.
3. Halo 2, unlike Halo 3, was rushed and you don't seem to mind.
4. If you think that Halo 2 was one of the best games that you have ever played, then you shouldn't have to worry much about the quality of Halo 3.
5. Read Bungie's weekly updates before you complain about a problem that doesn't exist.
