[QUOTE="Marvelii"]I posted that the gameplay isnt "entirely new or groundbreaking." You cant help but get immersed in the games graphics, which is a part of the game's gameplay overall. Its the graphics that clearly stand out when you first play that game. A game does not need to offer anything new to be a good/fun game.naval

so , although gameplay doesn't offer anything new, is crysis only a technolgical demonstration or not ?

Yes crysis is a technological demonstration for where else but the PC can you see the best of the best in graphics.

i meant to ask is crysis ONLY a technological demonstration ?

Its wrong of me to say "only" that was a bad choice of words on my part. My question to people, like myself who upgraded our computers, is that, would we have gotten crysis even if the graphics didnt look as good as it does? Would it have gained so much attention?

[QUOTE="Marvelii"]Crysis will never come close to Halo 3's success and profitability. Too bad for crytek I bet you if they would've made it for the 360 more people would be playing/buying it. The whole point of crysis is to show off how far graphics has evolved. The game is supposed to be a graphical showcase nothing else.whocares9

Ignorance at max performance right here. Crysis may not sell better than Halo but your statment that Crysis is just a graphcial showcase is absurd. The gameplay is amazing and far better than the gameplay of halo.

I never compared crysis and halo's gameplay. Only their position in the market.

SUCK! The fighting is slow and borning and jumping here and there and saving people for nothing get's old and borning. I want to throw this game outmy window into on coming traffic. This game sucks! Don't waste your money of this crap. O by the way this dude can't even swim in water. What kind of "Assassin" " is that? He can get hit with weapons in the face but can't swim. I can go on and on how dumb this game is. Wrost $60+ I EVER! spent for a next gen game.

For fast paced games KB+M is essential, but for your casual shooter its not required.

It really doesnt matter what GS gives it. The game's story will make fans get the game anyway. Its probably the single game that will finally make me buy a PS3, i can't resist. Its like a really good book/movie that you are just dying to find out what happens next.

I really dont have anything against linear gameplay. I still like those scripted moments where you're like "whoa!" Games tend to follow the same formula with new and innovated twists which makes old things feel new again ie. Half Life.

It wasnt really the graphical problems that I didnt like more like the controls. I think Black would be the better FPS for the PS2 in both graphics and controls althought short.

If the game is just a graphical showcase, why is the common consensus amongst reviewers that it fills out well in all areas?

From GameSpot themselves:

"Of course, the two questions that revolved around Crysis since its announcement were whether it would deliver on those visuals and whether it would deliver a game worthy of those fancy graphics. It turns out that the answer to both those questions is a resounding yes, as Germany's Crytek has proven that its 2004 hit Far Cry was no fluke. In fact, it was just the beginning from this studio. With its sophomore effort, Crytek has managed to deliver an incredibly advanced and exciting first-person shooter that practically rewrites the rules for the entire genre."

"This is a game that pushes the envelope in terms of both technology and gameplay and does so with aplomb."

These sorts of tired attacks are as old as the game themselves, and they've repeteadly been proven wrong.

Exactly.

Crysis' gameplay isnt entirely new or groundbreaking. It borrows alot from Far Cry's open/large area gameplay. Thats not necessarily a bad thing, my point is that Cryteks emphasis more towards its graphical element than its gameplay elements shows how crysis is more of a technological demonstration rather than a new way of playing games, just like Doom 3.
