The Half Lifes and the STALKER games (but you'll have to turn dynamic lighting off on STALKER)

So based on what I've seen online, this rig will be able to get about 30 FPS out of BF3 on Low. Would OCing the CPU and/or the GPU give me a few more?Maverick6585Also, Ive done some calculations, and a 250 watt PSU should be fine to start with, right?

A friend of mine offered to let me use the skeleton parts from his old gaming PC until I could build my own. I'd have to provide a PSU, disc drive, a hard drive, and an OS. I've got the PSU and the disc drive, and a friend of mine told me he could get me Windows 7 (non-bootleg, completely legal) for about 30 bucks. Then I could get a 500 GB hard drive for another 30 bucks online somewhere. If I did this, I'd be able to run games I have but can't run (BF3, Metro 2033, etc.), run games I barely run on better graphics settings(Borderlands, Skyrim), and be able to get new games with decent graphics (Chivalry). But, I'd have to cancel my pre-order on Splinter Cell Blacklist for 360 (I'm a minor, no job, got 60 bucks to my name). I only have 5 bucks down, so it's not that big of a deal, but I've been looking forward to this game since Febrary, when I pre-ordered it.
What I'm thinking, is that I build up my friend's old PC, then get Blacklist once I get a job (just need a car!)
What do you guys think?

Here are the specs of the PC
i5 2.7 GHz Dual Core (O.C. if neccasar)
4 GB RAM (Easy to find more)
NVIDIA 430 1 GB of VRAM.
I know this isn't a very good PC, especially today. But compared to what I have now, it's magnificent. I've been running games on my laptop.
Here are my laptop's specs
Pentium 2.1 GHz Dual Core
4 GB RAM
Integrated Graphics
PublicNuisance
I would take a better system that would benefit you in many games over a single game. On a side note if you have never overclcoked before I would do a lot of research and ask a lot of questions to people who have.
Yeah, never overclocked. I wasn't really planning on it, especially with stock Intel cooling, but it's nice to know it's there.A friend of mine offered to let me use the skeleton parts from his old gaming PC until I could build my own. So if I were to build a rig, would I be able to plug in the HDD from my laptop, copy EVERYTHING onto the new HDD, and therefore have Windows 7 on both?
Sounds a LOT like ROCompletely different games, only similarity is you have gun for a nose.
If you want a excellent post apocalyptic single player game, then go for STALKER. I've really enjoyed all my play throughs of all 3 of the STALKER games :)
If you want a very challenging WWII online only FPS where a single shot from nearly any rifle will kill you (Garand needs 2 unless you get a headshot). Deployable MG's mean MG traps can be set anywhere, Snipers hide at the back of buildings where they are hard to spot but despite all that rushing with an SMG is still a viable tactic. Add to that a dedicated and experienced community who often work together with out any one co-ordinating them. Then DOD Source is for you. (personally I prefer DOD 1.3 even after 8+ years) Did I mention you will die a lot, it's a very challenging game ;)

I've been looking at both, but I've onky go enough left over from the Steam Summer Sale to get one. What do you guys think? I like the STALKER series, but even though I haven't hear much about it, Day of Defeat looks rreally cool. Kinda like Red Orchestra, but not as good looking (Source engine for ya), and I know Valve makes good games (Half-Life, Portal, ect)
