@Shantmaster_K The same way that people today may have missed out on some great games from past console gens (or classic PC games from the 90s or earlier). I can only play so many games, and, believe me, I have had many, many games that I've wanted to play in the past, but didn't have the time to get around to.

Hopefully, Thief 4 will eventually come out and show the AC franchise how it (stealth gameplay) is really done right.

I've never played an AC game, and perhaps I never will. I can't understand how an assassin can go around in the day time performing very risky missions, when, in reality, such a thing would leave one very exposed to getting caught and revealed. It would've made a lot more sense to set the games during night time, like in the Thief franchise. Plus, it could even give the game a nice, more gritty feel to it that may even make the characters, story, and the world feel more alive, as opposed to being so black-and-white about its morality.

@HailHellfire @Smokescreened84 @ParaBellum71 Yep. So true a statement. As much as we'd like everything to become the way we want it all at once, that's not how life works. Everything takes time. Advancement in science, technology, etc. is not a simple or quick process.

@Myst17One would think that the post-Baby Boomer generations, especially the Millennial generation, would greatly understand what changes need to be made in our culture and media, but there are still plenty of ignorant, close-minded individuals around.

Maybe more of them could take the time to educate themselves more, instead of endlessly looking at works of fiction (particularly the kind that is full of many stereotypes). Hmm...or is the very reason why people are still pretty apathetic, due to not enough appreciation/understanding of fiction, which, studies suggest, actually makes one more empathetic towards others?

Above all else, more games need to be really down-to-Earth, telling personal stories rather than always resorting to save-the-world scenarios, which may fit action games or action movies well, but don't exactly work well across the rest of the movie/game genres.

@Smokescreened84 Yeah, I know, right? It's simply ridiculous. Even as a male, I don't understand what goes through the minds of males that choose to treat women like they are second class citizens or half a human being (just like the Three-Fifths Compromise between the North and South in 1787.

People need to grow up and grow some kindness and compassion in their hearts. Those individuals which stand in the way of progress, resorting to old traditions for the sake of itself (with no rational behind it) are making it harder for all of us, not just minorities. And for me, particularly, as someone with a mental illness (MDD, SAD, and OCD) and how the media likes to portray us with such negative stereotypes and misconceptions (like thinking that people with mental illnesses are more likely to be perpetrators than victims of crimes, when it's really the other way around). Discrimination never has any benefits in society.

Great article, Carol. We need to stand up for women and minorities in the media more, especially in the games industry. There has to be something that is a breakthrough, a really risk, but one that pays off, to help move games in a much more mature, rational direction. Something akin to the Twin Peaks of games that isn't afraid of receiving any criticism.

In the end, it's all about preference, particularly games and system features. For me, it's really about learning to develop games for any recent console that's out there, so fanboyism can't blind me from making smart decisions towards working in the games industry.
