I am someone who has played wow quite heavily since its release in 2004. I have at least 6 85s, and 2 more 80s on the server I play. I know there are some have more than that.
Recently I started suffering heavy burnout. Now I play only 2 hrs a week on saturday, so my 2s partner can get some points. Cataclysm was a huge let down for me. I do not think it was too hardcore, but rather too much of we've pretty much seen this stuff already before.Deadmines, SFK, ZG and ZA.
I find it much harder to keep multiple toons up to date with the shorter content cycles (edit:) in comparison with Wrath where pugs were easy to come by and I could spend a month or two gearing up one toon through raids and move on to the next. It really helped to keep the gameplay varied for me. I even loved healing because it didn't feel like extreme whack a mole.
I also dont like how gated access to pvp gear is. If you play on a pve server, you probably have a good idea how difficult it is to find someone competent for 2s, let alone another 9 ppl for RBGs.
I thought the zg/za content patch to be a terrible addition. Ironicly though those heroics now offer faster ones than the 346 level heroics. At least they have(so far) spared us the Old God stuff. I've always thought they were nothing but a terrible diversion that does nothing to further the story of what goes on in Azeroth.
I'm not even considering playing SWTOR. I'm in the process of reconnecting with my consoles that have been collecting dust. Past couple weeks I've completed GoW3, KZ3 and BM:AA. I think that's what I need right now are accessible games with short campaigns to keep things varied.
Kung fu panda didn't end my desire to play wow. The repetitive raiding/heroics model did that on its own.
