@awarriorg A gameplay experience can change considerably according to which platform and which peripherals you use to play, so I think it's very relevant for a reviewer to say which console(and\or accessory) they prefer their games on.
The static radio from Silent Hill made the game much more tense for me. Also if you try to play Thief in a stealthy and cautious manner, you'll be scared out of your mind. I remember the first time I saw the Hammerite skeleton thingie, I was walking down this narrow corridor and I heard a noise of chains being dragged on the floor. The noise got louder, so I assumed something was coming here, so i hid in a small hole in the corridor's wall and waited. The sound got louder and louder, until an imposing skeleton dressed in a Hammer outfit slowly came into sight and was walking slowly around- looking for me. No music was playing, no sound was heard besides the sound of chains being dragged. I think my heart stopped at that whole point until he left.
@Orgil220 @carolynmichelle She's saying it's individual for each game and that it highly depends on your personal impression. You can't really conclude anything on entire genres. Also remember that this is all a personal opinion.
@carolynmichelle @mjorh I see, so you're saying that the different scenarios you find yourself in CoD are exciting enough for you to enjoy the old gameplay in new context all over again. Alright then, I'll let you go to sleep now :)
@carolynmichelle @Mevrick While I see your point, when you review a game you must have some sort of reference point on which to base your review don't you?
@carolynmichelle @Mevrick Well I always found the stories of CoD to be pretty generic summer action movies plots. And for some, the same game with a different story is enough(I will still enjoy Origins since I like this gameplay). But if the Gamespot reviewers want to set up review standards for sequels, I think that gameplay innovations(not just story) should be a noticeable parameter.
A fine review, I agree completely. I'm just wondering, if this games was criticized for copy pasting its elements(and rightfully so), then how is it that CoD gets the same high score each time(and no mentions of no innovations in the review), when the difference there between games is even much less significant?
@MooncalfReviews I think it's something that's very hard to distinct unless you have a basis to compare. Maybe if you would've seen GTAV running at 60 fps for a while and then switch to 30 fps then you'll notice the difference much more.
Games that I truly remember for the best are the ones with great music experience like almost all Final Fantasy games, Homeworld games, Silent Hill games and the recent Bastion. It has a great affect on the gaming experience in my opinion. I feel the same way about movies and TV shows too, like Battlestar Galactica for example, which had some music that almost had me in tears.
I believe that some music has much greater affect when you watch it together with a certain context.
