Interesting, but I'd be more interested in knowing what those consoles will be, rather than what they *won't* be.

Not really. They're just two different takes on RPG elements.

clone01

No, they're not. The D&D system and older JRPGs are actually RPGs, Fallout 3 has those elements just for the sake of getting called an RPG. If they weren't there nobody would ever notice.

Or you can go to a town, and sleep for a night, like FF7. If that's not dumbing down nothing is.clone01

Like I said before, Fallout is an attempt at realism in a "what if" fictional future, JRPGs and specifically Final Fantasy are plain fantasy. The two are not connected in any way.

And you still have long ways to go if you think you can compare the materia system or the D&D framework with a system that is a tweaked aimbot with some attempt at a levelling system on top of it.

Okay it works both ways.

Get blasted by some super omega ultra fireball from another dimension.

Go sleep at an inn.

Perfect condition.

Besides what about FO: NV new system?

commonfate

It doesn't work both ways.

Fallout is an attempt at realism in a fictional future. A "what if" scenario.

JRPGs are just plain fantasy.

How can you compare the two is completely beyond me.

If you count ALL the sidequests and DLC and no dialogue skipping, it's roughly 35 hours long.

Oblivion and Fallout 3.

How those amorphous messes got anything above a 6 will always trascend my comprehension.

Good thing it's Pachter that said it. That means Apple is soon going to have a major gaming related crash :P

Please, FF7 was great for it's time but it is extremely outdated and didn't age nearly as well as say 9. If games today played like FFVII back then, I wouldn't be much of a gamer.

commonfate

I know. If you took the time to read what I posted I actually said I think FF7 is far from one of the best games ever.

Doesn't change the fact that it was more deep than modern "RPG"s. According to you being on the verge of death and fully recovering by sleeping in bed 1 hour is "nitpicking"...if that's not dumbing down nothing is.

Nope. You inferred it, though.clone01

Hahaha no.

I said it actually fits its setting. Not that its setting was realistic.
