I beat it...

Yep. I beat it. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night...In around 15 seconds. :P

Shaft literally died with about 3 or 4 hits, and it took me less then a minute to take out Dracula. I was level 47 when I beat the game. Perhaps I was too high? I'm also really enjoying the Richter mode, but haven't beat it yet.

In other news, I've been playing Wind Waker a lot...And, well, I have mixed reactions. The combat is fantastic, and some of the music is pretty good, and the graphics aren't half bad either. But that's not the problem. Every 5 seconds there seems to be an almost impossible task you have to do. I don't mean like, a tricky puzzle, the dungeons are almost always no-brainers, but, for instance, having to throw a pot at a statue dead-center, and if you don't get it right, you have to go back and get the pot again, and keep trying, over and over and over. Another flaw is that in between dungeons, there's all these really annoying side quests and minigames where you have to play hide and seek or go on an easter egg hunt or something. It's just really boring and stupid. And don't even get me started on sailing...

All in all, it's a decent game, but it has a lot of problems.

And finally, I got Castlevania 2, and I LOVE it. I really don't mind the flaws people keep pointing out. It's an amazing game for the NES library, and I definitely reccomend getting it if you don't have it already.

Is it just me...Or am I the opposite of most people? Almost everyone thinks Wind Waker is nearly perfect but that Castlevania 2 is brought down by a lot of flaws, but I'm completely the other way around!

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is...

One of the best games ever made on the face of the earth. When I make a top 10 best video games of all time list, this one will definatley be on it. I thought Aria of Sorrow and Harmony of Dissonance are good, and I still do, but they look like nothing compared to this. The music and graphics are flawless. In every way the graphics show, and this definatley has the best graphics of any 32-bit game ever made. The music is almost entirley orchestrated, and sounds AMAZING. This is my favorite song so far.

********************************

So yeah, I like it A LOT. I practically had to pull myself away from the game to write this blog. Now I'll show you some awesome videos of it:

There's no denying it: I'm obsessed

Yeah, Castlevania. Let me tell you what's been going on right now.

Oh god no. OH GOD NO. I'm up to Dracula. Yep, Dracula. And I honestly can't beat him. If he just came at me with his second form, it would be no problem, but he always gets me with his first. Once, I got him to his second form, with like, 1 HP, and I died, literally, the second he came on screen. It was hilarious, but, damn.

I just recently beat this game! Yup, I'm pretty proud of myself. Check out my review by clicking here, or clicking the box.

I actually started this game over. That's what happens when you think you're going to take a "break." :P I'm pretty impressed so far, and I'm much further than where I was when I stopped before.

*******************************************************************************

And now for the games I'm getting!

*******************************************************************************

This is going to definitely be the best game I get. I honestly can't wait :D

Uh-oh. Yep, I'm getting this. (Castlevania II) It has major flaws, but I'm getting it. I just need to see that flame whip for myself. And I've decided not to get Castlevania III. Why? Well, apparently, it has insane difficulty. That's what AVGN said, anyway.

Now this one is going to be cool! I couldn't find a video on Gamespot, but just click here and see for yourself. It's awesome.

*******************************************************************************

Well, that's it for now. I already ordered these games, so they should be coming soon. Oh, and let's just say that there's a reason the Castlevania GBA games I mentioned aren't on my owned list. :P

A lot of stuff

Well, first of all, I hope everyone had a great Christmas/Chanuka/Kwanzaa New Year. This blog is kind of late because I got some presents late. I did, and I'm going to go through what I got.

***************************************

Tekken 5

I only played this a little, but right now, I'm pretty impressed. This is the first time I've owned a quote, "Real fighting game," and it's pretty good.

***************************************

Namco Museum: 50th Anniversary

This isn't my favorite. At first I didn't know why Gamespot gave it a 5.9, but now I think I get it. It's alright, but it's really not the best game collection out there. I would probably give it a 68/100.

***************************************

Castlevania IV

OK, this one is GOOD. I could talk a lot about this one, but you should really just go play it. It's really, really, fun, trust me.

***************************************

Itunes Gift Card

I'm not going to go through all the games I got, rather I'll talk about a few. First of all, thanks to Christmas sales, I was able to get another app: Doom! Yeah, I've never played Doom before, but it's awesome. It has a lot of flaws though, but I like it. Also, they made an advanced version of that Pong game I talked about earlier. It's the best version of pong ever, I think. You can change CPU difficulty, paddle size, EVERYTHING. And it plays beautifully. I reccomend it, it's called Qong Advanced. Also, I quickly want to mention Tetris. It's not amazing. The music is GOD-AWFUL, first of all, it will make your ears bleed. The sound effects are mediocre, but what makes this game playable is the sound effect whenever you do a hard drop. THWUMP! It sounds SO cool.

***************************************

Beavis and Butthead: Whoa, Cool! Gift Set

No, I didn't take that picture. Anyway, this set is pretty cool, but it doesn't have nachos, so it sucks. No but seriously, this is a good collection. Only complaint: It's missing a lot of my favorites. They should put out (huhuhuh) a DVD that has all of the episodes not on here. I would get it ASAP.

***************************************

American Express 100$ Gift Card

HALLELUJAH!!! OK, here's what I'm getting:

LOZ: Wind Waker

Castlevania: SoTN

And two Wii Points Cards, which I will be spending on:

Castlevania Rebirth

Castlevania 2 (oh noes!)

Bubble Bobble

Donkey Kong Country

Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa

Kirby's Adventure

Top 10 NES Games #1: Super Mario Bros. (For real!)

Well, I hope you enjoyed. It's been really great doing this, but I might take a break from making videos for a while. This whole project looked pretty simple, but it actually took me hours and hours to do. First, I had to record my voice, which was a nightmare. I would mess up constantly, and getting it perfect isn't as easy for me as it is for most people. Then, I had to record gameplay footage, from all 11 games. In addition, I had to record extra footage of Super Mario Bros. for the music video portion, and recrod footage of the real Super Mario Bros. 2 for the Doki Doki Panic review. Then, I had to put it all together. This wasn't too hard, but it took me forever. But anyway, I hope you enjoyed, expect Top 10 Genesis and SNES some time in the future, but I can't ensure it will be any time soon.

What can I say. WHAT CAN I SAY. This game...This game...This game is just, oh my god, AMAZING. You do NOT know the term "Video Game" untill you've played this. The music, catchy as hell. Freaking brilliant. The graphics, nostalgic and awesome. While not technically the best graphics on the NES, I still think they are, because they look so awesome. But we've only TOUCHED this game, for we haven't talked about, the gameplay. Oh god, the gameplay. At the time, it was more than revolutionary. People had some great games, like Balloon Fight, Pitfall, Pac Man, and of course, Donkey Kong, but nothing ever like this. This game had SCROLLING SCREENS. Oh, well now every side scroller has this, but back then, whoa-hoh! It was big. Did I mention it has 36 levels? 36 scrolling levels? Wow. Amazing. But I still have hardly touched this game. OK, I'll start from the basics. You play as Mario, or previously known as Jumpman, and, of course, you can jump. High. Really high. Like the people that made this game, in fact. But anyway, so yeah, you get to soar feet into the air. You'll need this to stomp enemies, such as goombas and koopas. You get powerups, and these are awesome. You can get bigger, (huhuhuhuh) and of course, throw fire. This is where the game gets GOOD. Throwing fire is fun as hell! This is mainly due to the amazing sound effects, my favorites being Bloo-Blep! And Woo-He! Just awesome. The game can be easily replayed if you know all of the warp zones in it: Level 1-2 and Level 4-2, level 4-2 hasving two warp zones. If it weren't for this, it would be harder to come back to this game again, and again, and again. But you can. Many later games tried to copy this one completley, and still today. Games like "Crash Nebula," use all of the systems in this: Getting 1ups, jumping on enemies, and so on. But the Mario series is the only true one that will be great. And that wraps up the NES. Best system of all time.

Top 10 NES Games #1: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Super Mario Bros. 1 just SUCKS, so I've changed my mind and made one of the most beloved cl@ssics on the NES my number 1 spot.

Now, most people will not agree, but I consider this the greatest title on the NES. The graphics are awesome, so is the music, and the gameplay, is, well, nothing short of amazing. Basically, you're Dr. Jekyll, and everyone is out to get you and you have nothing to defend yourself. Then you die, and turn into Mr. Hyde, which is really cool, but then five seoconds later, you get hit by lightning and it's game over. It's nothing short of the greatest game ever made. I love it.
Well, obviously, this is a joke. You shouldn't even have to click this, you saw the freakin' video. :P The real #1 spot is tommorow. Actually, no, I already made it, just click here.
Top 10 NES Games #s 3 + 2: DK Classics/MOTHER

To make up for forgetting to post #3, I made a smexy image and have links in the offical box arts! :D Tomorrow comes #1, you don't want to miss it! :D

Some may disagree for this as my third choice, but I still think of it as one of the best in the NES library. DK Jr's cool, but what really takes the bomb is Donkey Kong, in all its 8-bit glory. It's just missing the second level...What a shame. But anyway, you'll spend hours on this masterpiece, and it's a very good port at that. Jump barrels, flatten fire balls, climb ladders, awesome stuff. But to truly master this game it takes skill, because although the 3 levels repeat endlessley, things don't get easier. Think you have great timing and reflexes, and willing to give yourself a nostalgic blast to the past? Pop in Donkey Kong. Check out JR while you're at it, too.

Some people may have never heard of this one, but this is the prequel to the cult-cl@ssic, Earthbound. Orignally realesed in Japan as "MOTHER," this was planned to be realesed here, as "Earthbound," but after the translation had already been finished, Nintendo decided not to. Years later, Earthbound, for the SNES, was realesed, and people decided to take the rare, leaked cartridge of what would have been Earthbound, and called it "Earthbound Zero." But enough about that. This is my favorite 8-bit RPG, and one of my favorite RPGS of all time. Not as good as Earthbound, but it's REALLY GOOD. The game itself works similar to Pokemon: Walk around a huge world, and go from town to town. However, there is no obvious way to know if you have left a town or if you are still in one. What's annoying about this is that there's a REALLY high chance you can get into battles. Earthbound fixed this, with overworld enemies and the system where you can automatically beat them, but this game is hardcore. So prepare to get in a lot, and I mean a LOT, of battles. This was later in the Famicom's years, so the graphics and sounds are top-notch. All in all, if you're a fan of ****c RPGs, you owe yourself to check this one out, but the real carts are rare, so I suggest emulating it.

Top 10 NES Games #4: Kirby's Adventure

Never again will I have the simple convenience of putting videos I have made on my blog. Life really does suck. For people who don't know, Gamespot glitches up and never lets me upload videos. And it was going to be so perfect...But now it will just stop at #6. I would say profanities, emphasising on how much I despised this, but I would be banned before I could say Game Over. Oh well, here's the review:

This is one of the last games in the Famciom library, and it's one of the best. Contrary to popular belief, this is the second Kirby game, Kirby's Dreamland for the Gameboy being the first. But this is the first to let you use powers. Not only is this one of the cutest games on the NES, it's also one of the best. But when you really think about it it's also kind of menacing. Basically, you're Kirby, and the goal is to eat everything in sight and get to the end of the level. This got a bit boring in Kirby's Dreamland, but here, there's an added bonus: You can steal their powers. And there's a whole lot of powers. One thing people may complain about is that, unlike the later games in the series, almost every power only has one attack. But I think that's how it should be: Nice and simple. And fun as hell, too. This game has some of the greatest graphics on the NES, as well as catchy music. And of course the gameplay's awesome. But one of the greatest things about this game is the level design. It's almost as iconic as Super Mario Bros, in my opinion. These levels are permenently burnt in my brain, and I'm happy about it too. This is a game you can come back to again, and again, and again. I love it.

Top 10 NES Games #5: Super Mario Bros. 3

...Life sucks. Yup, I couldn't upload it to Gamespot. I tried like, 10 times, with .AVI and .WMV formats. Here's what they had to say:

************

Your video "Top 10 NES #5: SMB3" was not encoded because our video processor was unable to read the picture data. Try encoding in a different format and uploading again.

************

To read the picture data? You mean the visual? I honestly don't get it, this video is no different than my previous ones. Oh well, might as well post the review.

I can't say much else besides saying that this game is a masterpiece. Not the best Mario game ever, (hint, hint) but I'll be damned if it isn't at least one of the best. What can I say? It's Mario. You go around, stomping goombas, throwing fireballs, and dodging fish, and it's FUN. However, this game updates a lot on the concept. The graphics are beutifully outlined and never looked better, the music is original and great, but there are also many great gameplay changes. For one thing, there's a map. Instead of just going from level 1 to level 2, you can, for instance, skip a hard level for two easy levels, get items to blow down rocks in your way, and so on. This adds for much more variety. In addition, there's more powerups to collect. You have the Racoon Suit, which not only gives you melee but allows you to fly, the Tanooki suit, identical to the Racoon Suit, however you can turn into a statue and avoid damage, the frog suit, which allows for greater swimming and jumping, and the Kurbio's Shoe, (Or goombas shoe, bad translation) which lets you hop on spiked enemies. Of course, you have the retro mushrooms and fire flowers too. What can I say? It's Mario, and amzing at that.

Top 10 NES Games #6: Doki Doki Panic

I review the ORIGINAL Super Mario Bros. 2! A fantastic game, but just wait, because it only gets better from here on in.

********************************************************************

Review:

********************************************************************

After the popularity of Super Mario Bros for the NES, a sequel was of course in the works. Of course games developed by Nintendo were realesed in Japan first, and that was Super Mario Bros. 2. But not the one we got. It was pretty much identical to the first one, however the game was about 10 times harder and Luigi had different control. This game later appeared in Super Mario Bros. DX for the Gameboy Color and Super Mario All-Stars for the Super Nintendo. Anyway, Nintendo thought that the fact that the game was so similar to the first one, and that it was so hard, would give it poor critical reception in America. So what did they do? They took a random game from the Famciom Disk System library, and slapped Mario on it. It was called Doki Doki Panic. I'm playing the original, because in my opinion, it's superior, for two reasons: First of all, it's the original. Even if someone makes a remake of a game that I would think is better, I always still find myself liking the original more. Second of all, you can SAVE. SMB2 was a great game, but the fact that you couldn't save really brought it down. But in this, you can. It's the same great game, but you can save. That's awesome.
