[QUOTE="Mr_Matthews"][QUOTE="Silent-Hal"] Which is the exact point that I went from thinking that Capcom was handling it rather well to thinking that the game was genuinely racist. Out of nowhere you're attacked by stereotypical mindless savages covered in war paint, waving spears and wearing loin cloths. It just made me shake my head at how dumb Capcom are. Silent-Hal
Uh . . . what?
How is it racist to have characters in the game actually represent their setting? Was it racist for the enemies in RE4 to all be Spaniards? How ridiculous would it be if the African tribemen that attacked you in the heart of Africa were white and/or Japanese?
Gimme a break, people . . .
No, you give me a break. Stop hiding behind that stupid 'oh well in RE4 we killed Spaniards so it must be okay' because that's just completely avoiding the issue. Capcom shouldn't get a free pass just because this is a (pretty sucky) Resident Evil game. It's stupid that they included those African tribesmen at all, considering you'd be fighting a mixed race rag tag of villains literally just 5 minutes beforehand. It's a blatantly racist stereotype that should have died years ago to portray the 'evil savage from the dark continent'. Having something like that in popular entertainment like this makes me feel like we've regressed a good 50 years. Did you even play the game? You do understand that the tribesmen were all infected, right? Or do you consider the very concept of "African tribemen" racist? (if the latter's the case, turn on either the Discovery or Travel channel)
You seem to think this is a cop-out, but if you're going to call Capcom racist for having almost exclusively black villains in one game, then you have to call them racist for having exclusively white villains in another.
Gears of War's Cole was more of a racist portrayal than anything seen in Resident Evil 5.
