You guys are all so OCD, just don't install the new ones, who cares if there is a notification?

I always keep everything on my PC up to date (except the BIOS - I've heard there is far more that can go wrong than seeing any benefit). From what I've read, it's good to keep my graphics card driver up to date as well. I've only been in the PC building/gaming for about a year now so I'll be the first to admit that I'm still a novice, but this is just what I have read.

Update drivers when:

1) There is a known fix to an issue you are having

2) There is an increase in performance to something that is relevent to you

That is all.

The poeple who complain about constant problems and crashes are the "There is an update so I applied it" people. Software doesn't work on every hardware configuration on every computer.

Your power supply probably died. OCZ power supplies are garbage.

bigfoot2045

If it isn't the capacitors it is probably the OCZ psu, they had been really bad the past few years before they stopped making them

You should consider getting the 3570k. It's only $10 more but about 3-5% faster than the 2500k.

Also take a look at the Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H.

750 Watts PSU is a bit overkill, unless you're planning to get a second GTX 670 in the future.

The GTX 670 is the best bang for buck at the moment and will easily max out everything. Also, 8GB of RAM would be more than enough

for gaming.

Uninstall your drivers and try all the different ones that support the 7970 starting with the newest first.

Postmortem123

Yeah I reinstalled the 12.7 drivers and everything works fine now.

It's done this several times now and I have no idea why...

Look at your capacitors and see if any of them look like a soda can that you left in the freezer.

1) Install bluetooth dongle (if it doesn't already have bluetooth)

2) Use bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

I'm considering get a new piece of hardware for my computer, seeing as the thing for what ever reason struggles on games it shouldn't be struggling on at all. Recently been playing GTA IV on about medium settings at like 30 FPs for example. Anyway, here's the specs...

RAM - 8GB DD3
GPU - ATi Radeon HD 6950 2GB
CPU Phenom X2 955 3.20 GHZ (on a stock cooler)

Which of those three components is more in need of a upgrade would you say?

Grey_Eyed_Elf

Last I heard GTA IV was locked at 30 frames so I don't think it's your computer, it's the actual software product that sucks.

Out of those 3 components I would upgrade the GPU and OC the CPU (start saving for a mobo/cpu upgrade for next year.)

Nope GTA 4 is not locked at 30FPS. The reason hes having issues with the game is that its poorly optimized and is heavy on the CPU. WIth GTA 4 he would get a extra 45-50FPS if he had a i5 2500k overclocked to 4GHz.

*an extra

Don't bother judging your hardware with GTA IV.

sune_Gem

It's not just that, it's a really odd computer. I can max out Skyrim with everything but AA on, yet I can't max out Team Fortress 2 if AA is on also. It's like it chooses to play some games good and others terribly, no matter what the requirements.
