@bm_zero TWD reminds me of another "interactive movie" game, Heavy Rain. I think the thing that pushed TWD over Journey to me was how your choices could effect so much without you even knowing it, in the short and long term. And for sake of those who haven't played it, there were a few scenes where I just dropped my controller and said W..T...F.Again, not taking anything away from Journey. Like you said it conveys emotion very well for being so simplistic. I have to give that credit to the soundtrack, probably one of the better gaming soundtracks of the year.
