I turned on my PS3 and it was doing the intro thing with the wavy lines. It wouldn't stop doing that so I held the power button to reset and now when I turn it on there is no intro thing at all just a black screen. Everything is hooked up and plugged in correctly. How screwed am I?

I kinda put the "But God does exist" option there as a joke too because if you read my entire OP, this topic isn't really about God's existence.

No. Why give people false hope, and make them worship a being that has been proven to not exist (in your scenario)?

dog64

They will never know it was false hope though...

Assuming that I am the only one who knows that god doesn't exist, I probably would create "god" if that's what we want to call it. The truth is seldom as comforting as a harmless imagining... of course this is where it gets a bit sticky. If it begat some sort of politically charged movement and insisted on rigid orthodoxy, well maybe not.

D_Battery

It wouldn't have to insist of rigid orthodoxy at first because you're the one creating it. But with people being people, people would probably start interpreting your god in different ways eventually.

The main problem I have with the death penalty is, how many wrongful executions is too many? To me, one is.

D_Battery

^this too.

The following is in reply to several comments I've read: I don't think it's right to assume to every single person on death row doesn't regret what they've done; you never know in what context the people committed these crimes (that doesn't make it excuseable).

This is a question to the pro-death penalty people: Are we under the assumption that when the criminal is executed they are wisked straight away to hell? Because I have some bad news, there is no such place. Death isn't that great of a personal punishment because since there is no afterlife, there is no single point where the person realizes, "I'm dead. This is what I get for murdering/raping those people." Symbolically, yes death can have an impact put only if carried out swiftly if you want it to be a deterent to crime and like someone else previously stated, if you sped up the process to the point of efficiency, you would kill too many people who would later be found innocent.

Why bother creating a lie if you know it to be false? Then you're just lying to yourself and everyone else.

Akawoa

(I agree with you but I'm going to play devil's advocate) But you could give people hope. Sometimes people need to believe that there is always someone there for them. Also you know all those people who are zealots about religion? Well they'll just be zealous about something else, maybe even more so.

PLEASE READ ALL BEFORE VOTING.

The title is a bit of a misnomer because the poll is actually about religion, not God's existence. Ok so in this scenario you have definitive proof that there is no God. There is also (in this scenario) no religion whatsoever and there never has been. You are also the only one who knows that there is no God. Do you "create" God by telling people that he exists? Also keep in mind that since you are the creator, you can invent whatever kind of god you want, you can even invent multiple gods if you wish and you also get to decide whatever rules (if any) this god has.

[QUOTE="Raiden004"]

I don't understand why people are against it. I see its fair for someone 2 die when he/she has committed a horrible mass murder, huge theft. They took the lives of people who didnt do anything wrong.

verbtex

I see it as an infinite punishment for a finite crime.

I stand on both sides though. I mean, its not cool to kill them, but then again, they did hurt those people.

Yes it's a infinite punishment because they're dead forever but at the same time they don't feel the effects of it, because guess what, THEY'RE DEAD. Death is the easy way out and it achieves nothing.
