I think I do have a point. Here's without mentioning any names:

One game pretty much improves in all aspects and adds content. Result: an increase in score of 0.4.

Another game is a new short campaign + very little change (a harsher critic would call it old wine on new bottles). Result: it decreases 0.5 in score compard to it's predecessor.

I call that being forgiving since no other game would get away with that.

Filthybastrd

Not many other games are as great as Halo, thats why. Regardless of length and graphics, the game you're playing is obviously incredibly fun if these reviews are to go by. Uncharted is just a tomb raider knock off.

[QUOTE="Nidget"]Whats the hype on odst here? i know it was A on 1up, but whats it here?doobie1975

AA I believe.

yeah. all 37 of the ODST hype threads hyped it AA

I take it thats 8.0 or 8.5 then. Yeah, im guessing that since IGN usually scores games a little higher than GS.

I think UC2 was abit over scored

Filthybastrd

Why? They improved upon the first one in nearly all aspects and added content to the package as a whole.

I'm sure ODST will be great but it got away with looking dated (considering this is a full game) and lacking content.

Could be..I haven't played either yet. Not sure what It has to do with anything though. killerfist

Oh and that's the correct response I guess. Sorry for nicking and changing your reply Killer.

Thats probably by it got a 9.0 and not a 10. Because it isnt the longest campaign in the world, and is on the same engine. Everything else is top notch, like all Bungie Halo games. If it had got a 9.5 or something, then you might have a point.

Depends on the game. For FPS, usually always on normal or hard. For racing games, the same. For JRPGs, i tend to start on the easiest because im not that good, particularly at bosses.

Just wondering, but what is your aim? The purpose of this post? For IGN US to go hmmm, we should change out score?

Filthybastrd

Just wondering but why are you so defensive? I think my post makes perfect sense in a thread where some people claim ownage left and right while others are damage controlling with all their might.

Hmm well i got a PM yesterday saying that GS scores are what matters. So theres no need for ownage OR damage control.

IGN AU.

8.5 Presentation
Menus are slick and easy to navigate.
8.5 Graphics
Daytime sections look great but drab night sections.
9.5 Sound
We can't get enough of that ****c Halo soundtrack.
9.5 Gameplay
As always the controls are sublime.
7.0 Lasting Appeal
A five-hour Campaign is pretty disappointing.
8.0
Impressive OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

IGN UK.

8.5 Presentation
As slick and efficient as any Bungie effort, its one failing is its lack of matchmaking for the otherwise excellent Firefight mode.
9.0 Graphics
A slight step above Halo 3's already splendid offering, its cityscape is frequently beautiful.
9.0 Sound
O'Donnell's new direction for the soundtrack fits the action well, and elsewhere the dialogue and gunfire matches Bungie's typically high standards.
8.5 Gameplay
It's ****c Halo packaged in an all-new way, but the delivery of the spectacular scenarios falters.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
Single-player is short and sharp, leaving Firefight to be the sole long-term draw. It's brilliant, but whether it can maintain prolonged interest on its own is debatable.
8.6
Great OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

IGN US.
9.0 Presentation
A tight story and well-crafted world make for one of Bungie's best efforts to date.
9.0 Graphics
The Halo 3 engine is starting to show its age, but the art team has done its best to make this one a looker.
10 Sound
Another Halo game, another fantastic soundtrack.
9.0 Gameplay
The campaign might be a tad short, but it sure is satisfying. The fresh approach to Halo is a winner.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
Firefight is awesome. It would be even better with matchmaking.
9.0
Outstanding OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

Now, I've brought my flameshield just in case but it seems to me like this game got let off the hook a bit too easily (probably for being Halo). Especially the US review seems slightly biased (damnit, I really wanted to not use that word).

Now I'm not saying this is intentional favoritism but this happens all the time. I remember watching Matrix 2 in the cinemas close to it's release date. I. Was. Blown. Away. Few weeks, later I realized that my own enthusiasm may have "enchanced" the experience beyond what it would have been without my "goggles of expectation".

Call me a fanboi all you like but are'nt those reviews (just read the sammaries) just a bit too forgiving?

This game doesn't deserve a good score when bungie obviously weren't bothered about making it. It's quite funny how the Halo fans are the only people who don't realise this..

- Only 3 new multiplayer maps - They probably couldn't be bothered making anymore so thought 'Hey lets just include all the Halo 3 maps!!" either that or they aren't releasing all the new maps yet so they can milk even more money by releasing them as DLC. Kinda shocking when the game is overpriced already.

- 4-5 Hour campaign with no graphic updates from the previous game that's 2 years old now..

- Just over 10 people created this game while the other 200+ staff work on Halo Reach. Bungie knew all they had to include was a Beta invite for Halo Reach and the game will sell well. A bit like the Halo 3 Beta in Crackdown, the only reason people bought that game was for the Beta.

PS_John
Its not just 3 new maps, its got firefight mode as well. The campaign is closer to 6 hours actually, if you play it properly and dont rush through and skip stuff. And yes, a select few of Bungie vets worked on this for around a year. Reason theres more working on Reach is because they're working on a new engine for that as well. Not comparable.
