I was saddened to hear of the firing of Jeff Gerstmann, one of the most noteable GS employees I have come to know of on this site. I enjoyed his reviews and listening to his witty humor on the Hotspot, and for me, he was the "face" of Gamespot, the most prolific reviewer. I may have gotten a bit of bad taste from his Twilight Princess review, but I can respect him for giving the opinion he had and respectfully disagree just the same. To hear that his firing may have been caused by internal pressure from the pubilsher Eidos disturbs and horrifies me, because it is yet another example in a long line of examples of how corporatization of independent websites has ruined many of my favorite ones.
I will not be logging onto Gamespot on December 3rd. The boycott may not do much to help, but we can't sit back and do nothing. Gamespot was created to be a voice above the corporate media, and that's how it should stay. We may not be able to get Jeff back, but a message needs to be sent.
Write letters, sign the petition, boycott on Monday. Make your voice heard. CNet may own Gamespot, but that doesn't give them the right to sell it out as a corporate hack.
You will be missed, Jeff. It already hurts. Hope to see you around somewhere soon.
~Jay~
