Since you're so adamant to know, LAN stands for local area network. It's basically a network for a small area, as opposed to connecting to an on-line network. It would normally be done over Ethernet cables or a Wi-Fi connection.
Yeah EA why does Heros 2 have 32 player online and yet you cannot put a lan mode in the game?

Because the developers choose not to put it because the exclusion of it wouldn't hurt the sales of their game to any significant extent. If including something inside of a game isn't going to sell enough copies just on the inclusion of the feature that would justify putting resources into that feature then developers won't include it.
To honest, the title of this topic is almost a misnomer. The first thing people think of when ponder a way the Wii could get a mic would be by using the DS's. It's been (irrationally) suggested numerous times on this board and very unoriginal. It actually surprised me how uncreative this suggestion was.
