1080p is obviously better than 720p theoretically but seriously its really hard to tell the difference

I've tried both and for the performance hit, I don't see a hair of difference between them

BobHipJames

Let me be very clear.

1080p=1920x1080

720p=1280x720

Both are the dimensions of the picture measured in pixels which represent resolution. 1080p is higher resolution, but this puts greater strain on the hardware, causing the performance to be slightly worse for the tradeoff of better image clarity.

I'm going to be blunt: If you say that you found little or no difference between 1080p and 720p in terms of image quality, you are wrong in comparison to the sheer, hard facts. You can mathematically quantify the difference between the two resolutions...1080p has better image quality because it has more pixels. Period. Post script: A lot more pixels. Period.

Both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 are capable of both 720p and 1080p resolutions. The Wii is only capable of up to 480p resolution. Both consoles have few games that display in 1080p. The Xbox 360 can upscale many games to 1080p, although this is just an upscaled image of the original 720p image, so you're basically getting the same image quality scaled to your TV. If your image is rendering in 1080p natively, however, the image quality will noticable improve. Games like Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue or HD display in 1080p natively on PS3. Games like Halo 3 do not display in 1080p. They upscale a 640p signal to 1080p.

You do not need the HD-DVD player to play games in either 720p or 1080p. However, you do need the HD-DVD player to play HD-DVD movies in 720p. DVD movies will only play in 480p or be upscaled to the resolution of your TV with no noticable image quality bonus.

You're right, mathematically and theoretically 1080 is better than 720 obviously but if you put them side by side I notice little difference and i'm sure the average person won't see the difference either

You'd have to check exactly how its encoded because if you read the patch notes, they say that most DivX formats are supported but there's no such thing as 1 DivX encoder because its a group of codecs.

Thus technically xbox doesn't have full DivX support

I had a friend who's elite rrod'd after the 2nd day of using it after christmas

I don't mind nor did my friend however it was hilarious.

I've personaly had 4 Rrod's in 3 years but I love the games and i'm not obsessed to the point where i can't live without it for the 1 week it takes for my console to come back to me.

To each their own though!

I see alot of topics here asking for a good surround sound headset and i'll throw my 2 cents in because I have the zalman 5.1 headeset and its the best one i've ever used.

What separates this headset from others? it actually has 6 speakers in it! 3 per ear so there's no dodgy emulation of the sound because the sound will actually be coming from that direction!

Here's a review i found for them

http://www.auphanonline.com/articles/view.php?article_id=1894

Its typically cheaper than most fancy headsets at 60-80 bucks. No sense in spenking 1000$ on surround sound speakers when these will sound better and be more accurate for gaming. Plus a heck of alot less space they take up!

Also, you will need the Logitech Multimedia/Video Game Console Adapter as you can convet your 360 or ps3 RCA audio into PC speaker audio with front/mid/rear ports. Its about 10 bucks on eBay, believe me its worth it.

If you're low on cash and want the 5.1 surround sound feel without breaking the bank just put on these guys and you won't know how you lived without them.

As a side note, they're so good i've been many times called a cheater because I will be able to know EXACTLY where people are in first person shooters based on the sound of their footsteps, great for COD4 and Halo

People just like to be the "rebel"

Halo 3 is so popular that people think they are better than the rest because they like somehting that isn't the most popular thing.

Think about music, don't you feel so much cooler than your friends when you like a band before it became popular? or isn't it cool to say you like "indie" music. Makes you feel like you're breaking the system
