@xXxIRyanxXx @Oloryn I've been glad to hear that, as I know how much of a nightmare it has been for the current gen, with high costs and confusing development kits. If it's a little simpler, some of the lesser known devs might be able to break the confines of the traditional engines that became popular to avoid the complexity. Excited to see what will come out of this cycle. We'll see I guess, ha!

All I've ever read from developer reports is that the PS4 is remarkably easy to develop for, so I'm hoping this kink won't rub them the wrong way or be too much trouble. Plus, I think it's cool that from the ground up they are working on the crossplay feature. It was a nice attempt with the PS3/PSP, but didn't really work. I'd love to be able to stream console games, especially the ones that take up more time, like some RPGs and strategy games. Guess we'll have to see how it all turns out, but I'm optimistic.

Some of these suggestions comments are amazing, and bringing me BACK, ha! Might have to dust off the PS1...or hit up the PSN, depending. Is it too much to ask for some more Brave Fencer Musashi?!

Great article, well said. Personally, I actually prefer the other end of the spectrum, the endings with resolution. After spending countless hours in a story driven game where I am experiencing, in full depth, a story that was written for me, I'm not really a fan of endings that all of a sudden go, "well, we know we fleshed everything else out up to this point, but we're stopping here, make up your own." It all depends, of course, on how the narrative is driven to begin with. A game like SotC or Limbo, with so much mystery in figuring out the story as you go, work well with an open ending, as you've been essentially working with the game to make up your own story of sorts, anyway. In games where I'm told the story, however, I'm more of a fan of endings like Metal Gear Solid 4, where they answer so many questions, and I'm given a real chance to take it in and say goodbye. It's more powerful to me that way. I don't have to wonder. I just say farewell and thank you to the amazing characters. Or in regards to Final Fantasy, my favorite ending is FF9, it can still hit on some bittersweet points, but I get that moment of, "yes! we did it...good for you," but maybe I just like a good ol' cheesy happy ending from time to time. Whatever the case, to me, knowing the fate of the characters makes much of it worth it. Not always, but for me, often.

Of course, that's my preference, but I can appreciate and respect your tastes, and it was a great and refreshing article. In regard to Bioshock Infinite, by the way, I completely loved the ending.

What is a "core" gamer anymore? I'm 30, financially stable, spend my extra money on my hobby, gaming. I started when I was 2 on the Commodore 64, and since, have owned just about every console, having followed the games I enjoy. I love Mario, Link and crew, bought a Nintendo. Love Uncharted, God of War, etc...bought a PS3. Picked up my 360 for Oblivion and played it through Gears of War 3 before it red ringed for the third time. I have handhelds to fill in time on the side, and a killer PC loaded with games from Steam, from AAA to indie alike. Yet, the XBOX One, I have zero interest in, because at least at first glance based on all the launch info, it feels more like a slap in the face to me and my hobby, my favorite pastime.

Maybe I'm not a core gamer after all.

I'm sure Sony won't mind my money then.

@martingaston @Oloryn It's all good, like I said I usually agree with you, and I can see where the gamer side of ya can get wrapped up in the excitement of next gen. I still remember popping open my old Nintendo Powers to see the SNES reveal, thinking, "I don't care, I want it all!" Or playing Super Mario 64 for the first time in a Toys R Us, wanting to take the machine and everything around it home with me. Truth is, while I'm not as interested in the Xbox One, when it ACTUALLY comes out, that side of me could make for a different approach to the console too, time will tell, but I guess with the advent of so many ways for the industry to gouge me, from DRM to ridiculous DLC (some DLC is actually good, mind you), I've grown tired of just throwing them my money without a second though anymore.

In any case, you addressed my point, which I appreciate you taking the time for, and like I said, the rest of the article was spot on, and I appreciate how the media has been focusing more and more on how some developers (at least the marketing) ignores non-core gamers, like women and non-20-somethings. Ha, what is "core" anyway? I'm 30, have gamed since I was 2 on the Commodore 64, and while I may not play endless shooters, I'm still passionate about my hobby with money to spend. Like many of us. Hence why your article is so relevant. Keep it up!

@meatz666 @martingaston @Oloryn I don't think it has a demo, but it's a relatively cheap indie game, I think $15, sometimes on sale on Steam. You have great taste though, so I'm thinking you'd enjoy it. A very different type of game, like Oregon Trail meets Star Trek meets the Sims...or I suppose it's just FTL, ha! Still working on Witcher 2 myself, I can't blame ya.
