A list of horror, both good and bad

So with that holiday coming up on Sunday, I have the urge to make a few lists.

Scariest "good" film(I've seen)

The Exorcise: Once you see it you'll understand what everyone is talking about.

Halloween: Not very scary to me anymore, but it was the first time I watched it.

Poltergeist: I knew what happened with the house at the end, but the rest of the film scared me to death.

The Blob(I was 5 when I saw this): Yea I'm not proud of it, but when your 5 your scared of pretty much anything. Thou I did start to like Steve McQueen as an actor. They still run out of the theater in Phoenixville during Blobfest at the same theater in the film.

Scariest "horrible" films

The Hills have Eyes(remake, did not enjoy): Yea not great, don't watch, every stupid and the stereotypes of Democrats and Republicans is not funny or used effectively. Not all liberals hate guns and love trees.

Anything by Uwe Boll and I mean everything: This man NEEDS TO BE STOPPED from making another film. If anyone wants to see a great film based on a video game, stop giving him the directors chair.

Plan 9 from Outer Space: Horrible as in funny as hell. The plot is the only thing going for the film. Sad that the star was killed before the film was completed and was then killed off in the film, and in a terrible editing fashion, then they made a new hero. Watch to see what I mean and you'll be happy to know that you just watched "The Worst Film Ever". Thanks Ed Wood.

25 years ago there was NES

24 years ago I was born, and maybe around 3 years later my sister started playing the NES and the next year I picked it up. From playing after lunch, to playing at night with the family watching the progress, I remember falling in love with video games.

Mario and Duckhunt were to two big ones being the combo pack, but the gold colored Zelda came into the house and that gave us a reason to play at night on the weekends. I remember the first time I got to Ganon and how the family was watching me face the greenish blue pig face boss, just to find out that I had to go through world 2 to actually get to the true ending of the game.

Other games that have graced the NES are more then I can remember, but the ones that made the cut to be in the house are Mario World 3, Tetris, Ghostbusters, Double Dragons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Bubble Bobble.

Now if I was older at the time, there would have been many more games added to that list, but by that time the SNES was released and gained my attention. But on rainy days or out of seeing if the console still works I would hook it up and play something for a little and be sent back to my childhood.

Now in the present day, there are so many consoles and games that the gems get lost in the dirt. But if you own a NES and games, just hook it up and see if it works. If so, then play a game and relive the moment. Also if you have kids of any age, and they have never played the system, let them. I want my children, when I start having kids, to play my NES so that they can experience games before all the HD graphics and sensory overload of the games. If they can fall in love with the games of my childhood, then they will, hopefully, have the same respect and love for games as I do. So I am proud to have been able to play/own the NES console.

Nintendo is a great company that I hope does well in the future and continues to push the game industry into a bright, enjoyable future.

Bubble Bobble

Wastelander: A Journey for a daddy

Vault 101 a great home. Yea its a great place to visit, but I hate it. So I spent my whole life so far living in a vault. What am I a safe deposit box? No, I'm a human and I'm getting the hell out of here, but first I need to grab a bottle of whiskey and take down the boss. Then I'm out of here and off to I guess look for that p. unit of mine....

Come on you darn vault door, open faster. AHHHHH the light is blinding. What the heck is this place? For being in a vault for years, this place looks like crap. But it is better then the vault so far. No to find a place to rest and get some supplies. If the road still leads somewhere it may just lead to people....

That sign lied to me. This place ain't mega at all, but the bomb sure is. Just meet that sheriff, nice guy, bit of a hard ass but still nice. Is that a supply store I see in the distance?....

Well she is in need of some help. That book idea of hers sounds like a bad idea, but I do need money so I'll just make sure I don't die for it. But her items were in good condition and at a fare price. Now to hit up the bar in this small town....

Oh look a man in a suit, why does he want to talk to me????

Blow up the town? I just told the sheriff I was going to defuse the bomb. Now blowing the town up may pay more, but I can always come back and rest here if I needed to. Hmm.......

Day 2

Off to see what else is out in the world. Maybe I should go into the big city. May be a lot of good sniping nest. May meet some people that saw my idiot p. unit walking around.

No one as of leaving Megaton, but it's only been a 100 mins. so far. The subways are a great way to get around, but they can get confusing in I didn't look at the maps above ground.

Who the heck is Riley and where do I go to find them. More importantly why should I care? Oh look another subway station.

Wow! The National mall looks like a war zone. What the hell is wrong with the dogs and what are does big green things staring at me? Oh, god their running at me.

Thanks to the metal soldiers that helped me out there. Being low on shotgun shells ain't fun. Now I'm going to duck into the Museum of History. That nice ghoul outside said it was safe for me.

Somehow I found that Riley person. Got to wake her up and get back to her friends. Lets see what kind of doctor I am. Oh I know The Greatest.

She seems fine. Walked good enough and can fight well. Maybe I am a great doctor. But her Rangers still need help. Why did they hold up on the roof? I mean come on, I don't want to walk up all the stairs just to return her. It's not worth it that I can see.

Well that was worth it, I guess. Now I'm not only a great doctor, but the newest member of Riley's Rangers. Now to keep looking for dad.

How my god, it's the capital building. And does green things are running it. I guess money does change people...into ugly green monsters. Into the capital I go.

To be continued if you all like reading it, and I get farther in the game.

A funny game story

So one semester while i was in my dorm room, I was playing Bioshock. I believe for the second time through, but I could be wrong. Anyway, I'm sitting in my desk chair, in the middle of the room(the only place to get in front of the tv). So as I'm getting to the good doctor, where you gain telekinesis power. I was standing in the viewing room looking at the good doctor go through his rant about the patients, get starts on the part of "It's ugly, ugly, ugly. What an intruder. It's ugly...." Now as this is going on I hear people moving in the hall, and right then my roommate returns from being at the computer lab printing stuff. As he opens the door the "What, an intruder" is said and the rest gets played. He then starts laughting, but not at me, at himself. Why? you may ask, well he though that I was talking and was shocked to see me playing the game, that he has seen me play plenty of times before.

Now, he and i joked about it and told our friends and they all laughed at it. But the funniest thing is why he though it was me. I graduated college with a BA in Art with a concentration in Graphic Design. That semester I made a drum out of metal wire, recreated Brain Salad Surgery the album by Emerson, Lake, and Plummer out of cardboard, and some other odd art projects, while he was typing paper after paper on his computer. I would sit on the floor working at the same time talking. So he got in his head at the time of the rant in Bioshock that I was yelling at my art projects or sketches in my sketchbook.

I now know why people think art majors are not right in the head, but I love/d being an art major.

Scary Moments in gaming cont.

Next is Left 4 Dead 2. Now there are many things in the game that could go here but...

Left 4 Dead 2

she is it. in the opening of the game she freaks you out. But in the game if she is paired with any of the other special infected of if she's near a horde of zombies she can really ruin your day.

Fallout 3 is on the list for the fact that once it hits you that walking around the wasteland is extremely lonely and no all its cracked up to be, you start to get paranoid about your surroundings. Which can make you talk to yourself, which freaks people around you or in ear shot, or you start playing better then you normally would ever play a game.

Fallout 3

Now it is very amazing the first time you step out and see your eyes on the wasteland, but spent a few hours just wondering around and you'll get the feeling.

Mass Effect 2: The first and only time you get a chance to see the reaper is when you face it. The scare factor is that it is fueled from humans and that is just creepy. The look of the thing is a combination of a T-800 and some puppet zombie. Once its over the next cut scene sets you up of the next game very well.

Mass Effect 2

Scary Moments in gaming, just in time for Halloween

These are just what I think are the scariest moments in gaming.

Bioshock: to start off the list is the entrance of Sander Cohen.

Sander Cohen

His entrance is grand, insane, and very very weird. With a spotlight trained on him, and fireworks and confetti shooting off, he desents a grand stair case, just after killing a man and an innocent piano(not so sure about the man thou).

Next it this creepy monster, that can grab you from almost full length of a room.

RE4

The first time you see one is in a cutscene that shows it slowly walking to find you. It makes an awful noise that alerts you, but just because its slow does not mean it is easy to kill. Don't get to close and watch out of its spikes that it makes from its body.

Modern Warfare 2. Not this is not a very scary moment, but it is up there in shock. The airport mission is full of shock, but your given fair warning before it. Seeing the capital in ruins with men dying all over the place is sad and horrifying. It may not scare you, but it sure as hell makes you pissed once you get passed all the shock and surprise of seeing the city.

Modern Warfare 2

More to come in a few days.

Medal of Honor now out in the world. Oooohhh what a bad thing for the children.

So the Medal of Honor is out and taking Modern Warfare fans into a more realized battle zone. But the game is still a game. If the people that were up in arms about the name Taliban being used, in which the company changed the name to Opposing Force need to focus on more urgent matters. I don't know maybe the economy taking its sweet time getting back to the Clinton years, or how insane some Republicans are when they talk, or on the conditions of schools in the country. I would just let it all go. The company could have called them Terrorist, but that word covers anyone, of any country. I would have bet that the company would have changed the name before it came out anyway.

But I would have enjoyed seeing clips of the talks about the game on the great(I really hate) Fox News. The talk they had about Mass Effect 2 when that was released and how Geoff Knight from G4(not sure what his on anymore) was giving facts about the game and the host and other guess were just cutting him off whenever he was making a great point that they just could not see. So the game let you do some bad things and have sex, but you didn't see the sex and the bad choices are not even close to the things people pull of in the real world let alone in a game. Look at all the crap people pull off in GTA, the videos are funny as hell, because if I could fly a helicopter under a bridge and land on a tall building, base dive, and land on top of a moving car...,will I wouldn't do the base diving, but the flying the helicopter and landing on the building, give me some classes and I'm there.

So Medal of Honor may not be great, but I would enjoy to have a copy of the game. I have friends that are over in the Middle East in the Military and they would play the game no matter what the enemy was named. I enjoy the series when it was set in WW2. Frontline was a great experience and the Original Medal of Honor games was such an enjoyable game. It may not be up with Call of Duty right now, but just wait and see. It will be right up there soon. But never forget to think about the children, they may get some bad ideas for games, but let them watch violent tv and movies and all that other stuff, but don't let them play a game that is being politically correct.

Games and the deadly winter season.

Now many gamers will be excited for the holiday season for the sheer joy of the games being released the end of Sept. till the 25th and some weeks beyond.

Now I am talking about Halo: Reach, Dead Rising 2 and the other great games that were just released. But there are some games that are being released that if you haven't played the current game out already, you really should.

Fallout: New Vegas is the next game in the Fallout series. If you have played Fallout 1 or 2 then New Vegas is just more of the story from the West Coast, but if you haven't played them then pick up Fallout 3. It may not be the same story line, but it is a great way to get use to the game play and view for New Vegas. New Vegas is going to be a great game, and a great expansion for the series. Great cast line up with Danny Trejo(Machete, Rob Zombie's Halloween) Ron Perlman(Fallout 3, Hellboy) Matthew Perry(Friends, The Whole 9 yards) and Felicia Day(The Guild, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog)

Rock Band 3. If you can't wait to get your hands on the keyboard and start jamming to the songs like Paul Shaffer (Late Night w/David Letterman) then your going to love it. But if you haven't enjoyed the previous Rock Band games, then your missing out. Your collection of songs is only going to be that in the game, but the up side is the older songs are not able to use the keyboard....yet.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is going to take the FPS into a war that was known for no shoots being fired, yet the most filled with conspiracy in a war so far. To be in the early years of the Cold War sounds very exciting and having the voice of Grey Oldman and Ed Harris is not a bad thing at all.

Assassins Creed:Brotherhood may just take the series to a higher standard with the multiplayer alone. The story is going to be great and the graphics are going to be epically amazing. But the multiplayer is the stand out reason to pick it up. The modes so far released in the news looking very interesting to say the less. Just have to wait.

Medal of Honor is coming back and finally into the 21th century. The new name of the "Opposing Force" may have made politicians and parents happy and more likely to buy the game. But the new look is what I think is going to be great, that and the setting may be more realistic then a story setup in Modern Warfare.

Fable 3 is going to be great. The new story and the hopeful reign as king of Albion seems like a great step in the story. I can't wait to take over and make decision in a game world I love to visit over and over. Plus the voice cast is looking great with Simon Pegg(Shane of the Dead, Star Trek) John Cleese(Monty Python movies) and Stephen Fry(Tim Burtin's Alice in Wonderland, V for Vendetta)

So look out for theses games and more as the days and weeks get closer to the holidays. Each game is now fighting to get your money and attention and some cases love and devotion. So be picky and get the info. to make the best decision before you get a game that is not what you will enjoy in the years after you finish it the first time.

Thinking of something while listening to iTunes.

So Rock Band, a great game series that changed party music games after Guitar Hero made music games popular. Anyhow Rock Band 2 made a lot of hype around the fact that The Who gave them the rights to release Who's Next the album over Rock Band Network, yet they made a game to The Beatles. I have nothing wrong with the game, but then they made one for Green Day, a band I enjoy listening to and seeing live, but they are not The Beatles. So I got to think about the next thing they could make a Rock Game for. The only thing I got was WoodStock. But not just the bands from the first(and only great) outing. They should do the one from the 90's and then let players play any song on their game list on the stage at the event. So players can live their own Woodstock and day. It that pans out then maybe Live Aid or Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame concert that just happened a year or two ago.

Also I was watching AOTS today and Kevin Pereria and Morgan Webb were talking about the new(ish) DLC and he said about Red Dead Redemptions new Liars and Cheats DLC and the ability to play poker with friends over the game online. Fun but he was right when he said: "so you have to get your friends to ride to the saloon and go to the room and then you can play poker." why not just actually play poker with your friends. that way you can see their tells and take their money. So the DLC sound good for the other perks but not worth the money to get it.

And finally Ridley Scott will be making 2(so far) prequels to Alien. Not sure who is going to be in it, but at least Ridley is in the director chair and not someone who watched Alien and wants to make him and the fans proud. Scott can do that 'cuz he started it. Also Uwe Boll needs to be taking somewhere away from a camera and be left alone in the middle of a snow dessert or a sandy one. He thinks that his film about the nazi death camp was a better film the The Hurt Locker. Now I have not yet seen the oscar winner for Best Picture The Hurt Locker or Bolls new piece of crap that he thinks is a film. But The Hurt Locker looked great and was honored for it. Uwn was honored but having a list signed that was to stop him from making films and was giving a razzi for being the WORST DIRECTOR ever. and that means he is worst then Ed Wood who made Plan 9 from Outer Space, which was very funny for how bad it was, I know I watched it. So that is my rants for now.

The season that was..................

The guys and girls at Rooster Teeth will be ending their 8th season of Red vs. Blue. Which also has 3 mini series inside the main story line. My favorite seasons are 3 (their longest at 2hr 30mins give or take) 6 (the only one with voice over work at the beginning and end of each episode). Each season has a character that is acted beyond the rest. Donut got it in season 3 and Caboose got it in season 2 (i believe, be some time since i watched the commentary). My favorite characters are Church and Grif. They just seem to embody the solder that is not there to fight, but is there to fight. They don't like to take orders, Church likes to give them and Grif likes to go on hiss own. Capt. Flowers is one of my favorite minor charactors cuz Ed from Barenaked Ladies is the voice inside the helmet.

If you have not seen any of the seasons and don't want to spent the $40 dollars for the first 5 seasons of DVD without getting a look head over to their site and watch a few episodes(their free). Also the new mini-sodes take place in Halo:Reach which is in stores in less then 3hrs. if Halo is not your thing, then check out The Guild starring Felicia Day(Dr. Horrible: Sing-Along-Blog) the show is fun and very well written. It's about a guild that play an unknown MMO(most likely WoW). Wil Whedon is a new character to the show, and he is the best villain ish character.

If there is anything that anyone watches that is not on tv that is what they think is great tell me, I'll watch most anything once and I may just get hooked. Hope you all watch RVB or The Guild or both.
