Welcome to the world of REAL RPGs. Where deep, evolving story and character development count for something :)

AdobeArtist

Games need to have massive amounts of dialogue to be deep, evolving stories with character development?

Wow, sure fooled me!

Either way, I find the games with the best stories that really pull you in aren't RPGs most of the time. Maybe its just not my type of thing, could never get into Mass Effect.

Books have better 'deep, evolving story and character development' and probably require more input from the user as well!

[QUOTE="KukicAdo"] False. The first team that cracks the PS3 code, will gain mass popularity. Pirates have been at it since launch. Still no luck.

KukicAdo

Exactly, the only thing that high price of Blu-rays would effect is the number of pirates on the PS3, not the time in which it takes to hack it.

Umm so if i'm a pirate. and the PS3 is cracked, would i rather: A) Go out and pay $60 for a game B) go out and spend $20 on 10-12 Blu-Ray disks, and burn 10-12 different games Hmm...

Also need a Bluray writer and download the PS3 games, which even compressed may still be quite large.

Either way;

how is it innovative, the only thing innovative Demon Soul has is that its too damn hard, which is a turn off to gamers and myself

scarface_dm

Demon's Souls multiplayer aspects from what I know are not like anything seen in a single player RPG before, many people enjoyed the system.

Haven't played DAO, so... have to ask, what does that game innovate?

Highly marketed game by a big well-known developer (in the West anyway) which is made for all platforms is selling more (dwarfing) then a niche title on one platform from a smaller Japanese developer that isn't released in Europe/Oceanic regions?

WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?!

Just curious... DS was struggling for recognition to begin with, and now they dont stand a chance, standing in the light of the next epic bioware gem. I was wondering if this made you die hard RPG'ers angry...

TheEroica

DS sold out, it did far better then what was expected. And I don't get the use of the words 'next epic bioware gem', they seem to be loaded with connotations without being at all backed up. What has DAO done that hasn't been done in the past? Why would 'epic bioware gem' be getting 91 on metacritic (for PC) while Uncharted 2 has 96 (and other 'epic gems' have similar high scores)?

Your thread just makes you out to be a Bioware fanboy that was scared that Demon's Souls release would overshadow your fanboy fantasy, and now that DAO has scored higher (on Gamespot at least) on ONE platform you must gloat about it?

Wow people really do get pathetic, anyway, if DAO is that great I will be enjoying it in conjection with DS... Otherwise not at all into Mass Effect, if this game is in the same vain then I have no problem admitting that I will be not going near it at all.

Wii was a fad?!

Better tell Microsoft and Sony!

Sold million of units, introduced many non-gamers to gaming, many games used its new controls well (sure they didn't get the notice of hardcore gamers, but that wasn't the point).

If Wii was just a fad, then you pretty much have to call all of gaming a 'fad'. Which... In the long run it is, two hundred years time gaming may just be considered a fad.

Will the next Nintendo console do HD? Probably.

But its underlying theme will still be able disruption to the industry, it will be much more then just a HD-Wii.

[QUOTE="boredy-Mcbored"]

Really? Nintedo and Sony have a way bigger impact on the Video game industry than Ms has ever done. Fakeboy am comfirmend. I really hope so...

The__MCP

This generation, all they have done is

-- Nintendo has pushed motion sensing controllers for every system

-- Sony has established that Blu-Ray is the HD format of choice, if it stays

Other than that, they're living off past glory. Microsoft has influenced the gaming industry these past two consoles far more than the PS2/PS3 or Gamecube/Wii

-- Online gaming as the norm, avatars, game tags, achievements, etc

-- Headset communication as the norm

-- Downloadable content

-- Hard drives on systems

-- HD connections and capability (remember, Xbox 1 started that before the PS3)

-- PC genres on consoles (remember, shooters, WRPGs, MMORPGs, and real-time strategy on consoles were pretty much unheard of before Xbox 1/2)

Here's a correction for you;

Nintendo;

- Expanding the the console market far and beyond its original selective audience (including amazing ease of use for console setup/etc)

- Most advanced controller ever

- In built wi-fi.

- Bluetooth (even though this originally started with GC of course)

- And of course popularising motion control (even though it has yet to hook many hardcore gamers.

- Backwards compatitiblity taken to the next level (via downloads)

- Miis

- Changing handheld industry via touch screen (again opening up huge a huge gaming audience) and its many advantages and changes to gaming, e.g. Nintendogs

- Opening the gaming scope as a medium to include fitness games (creating a new genre)

Sony;

- Blu-ray format (and hence advancing it, WILL become standard for HD games in the future, games using 3x DVDs in the future isn't practical, just look at FF13, they are already taking stuff out because of 360's lacking ability)

- HDD compatitiblity with a common format (2.5" SATA)

- The most complete out of the box system of this generation, including;

+ full bluetooth

+ inbuilt controller charging

+ full use of PSN

+ HDMI from the get-go (360 only adding the option later)

+ In build wi-fi

Now, lets have a look at your 360 points...

- Online gaming. This topic is about the video game market, hence PC is included. PC already has this and does his more effectively. If anything MS is a worst online gaming platform because the 360 isn't an open system like the PC is, and unlike PSN/Wii the service to play games online is far from free. Can you give credit for MS for online gaming on the console? Yes and no. On one hand, technology was getting there anyway, on the other they were the ones that did push it with the original xbox.

Anyway, Dreamcast thought of using online gaming as a core part of a console years before the Xbox.

- Avatars. This doesn't even deserve a reply.

- Game Tags. Again, PC gaming.

- Achievements. Personally I think these things are a disease on gaming. Nor did MS come up with them. No, they just put them in every single game while before they were really achievements, now they are just useless epeen points and a way for MS to get more content out of bad games because silly people are willing to grind more or do unbelievable things for useless titles.

- Headset communication. Again, you are joking right? I was using a headset for gaming years before the original xbox came out.

- I'm pretty sure I can buy full games on PC, but not on the 360.

- AGAIN, sounds like a PC to me. And last time I checked, there was no harddrive on all 360 models, actually MS removed the best 360 model on purpose. And also, unlike Sony (or even Nintendo) their harddrives are only sold by MS themselves and hence rip off their costumer base. MS IS SO HONEST!

- HD. Umm, was it actually used? Microsoft didn't invent HD buddy, but hey, I'll give you that one even (as 'MS did it first!!!', even though PS2 was released earlier and hardly anyone actually had HDTV) though it was probably annoying to setup and annoying only having one or two games that actually used it.

- Other genres on consoles;

Shooters: pretty sure there were a number of games that did it well (or even better) then MS before Halo came along.

WRPGs: Are still much better on PC, and... MS didn't randomly invent putting them on, consoles caught up with PC capablities so companies like Bioware put them on other platforms. Actually if anything WRPGs jumping to consoles has actually dumbed them down a bit.

MMORPGs: Ummm, pretty sure there has been NO stand out MMORPG on a console yet (how did you pull this one out of your arse? Seriously?). Phansty Star Online was a solid multiplayer RPG though.

RTS: Sucked on consoles before the Xbox, and still suck on consoles now... Seriously where are you coming up with this rubbish?!

Ironically, ALL you have shown is that MS is basically stealing ideas from the PC... And considering the architecture of consoles and PCs have slowly been getting closer and closer, this really isn't a surprise...

ALL Microsoft has done in gaming is built a PC that they can control 100%, which is funny considering people are still getting away with massive amounts of privacy on it. Personally, I have no doubt in my mind that Microsoft is killing gaming and milking it for all that it is worth.
