http://xbox-360.nowgamer.com/reviews/xbox-360/8680/halo-3-odst so i have to ask this question to the MAG bashers that where acting like Nowgamer is the new bible for review scores after the MAG review.. do you still feel that way?

DontBeHatin1983

did he reviewed the beta the servers are not up so how the hell could he review the full game?

We are starting to see MAG (Massive Action Game) reviews surface around the web. It may not seem so strange considering the game is due out for release tomorrow (26th of January) in the U.S.A and three days later in Europe, but the truth is that all of this so-called "reviews" cannot be based on anything other than the BETA since the officials servers don´t go live until the eve of the release day.

The Social Media Manager of SCEA, Jeff Rubenstein, even made a public announcement explaining why there will be no reviews on MAG´s launch day.

"Reviews can't be written until the game is actually out. I mean, you can't pass pre-release judgment on a game whose major, industry-leading feature (256 players in a single battle) can't be tested until release day."

Even if these bloggers had the chance to play the game for an entire week do you still think that their review would be fair? Hardly. MAG is strictly an online game — reviewing MAG after only a week of testing it on a private server would basically be the same as reviewing World of Warcraft after completing a tutorial quest.

Still, it seems as though the game, even it´s BETA stage, has impressed these bloggers — with two sites giving it an 8/10 (which by no means is a bad score) it might just be enough of a review to convince people buy it. 8 out of 10, no matter how you look at it, and considering that this is an online only game, ought to be purchase worthy game for most.

If you have the patience for it I would definitely recommend waiting at least two weeks before reading anything that has the words MAG and REVIEW in it´s title — or you can just head down to your local game shop first thing tomorrow, pick up a copy, and try it out for yourself. My bet is that if you enjoyed the BETA you will love full product. Those of you who are still skeptical can afford to wait the two extra weeks or just rent it out.

Source

Here you go. The people reviewing it so far are just the idiots.

MAG was hyped as A and Heavy Rain as AA. Nothing wrong there.

MassMayham57_

are u sure?

Looking at their previous game of the same type, Indego Prophecy, it got a 8.4, and obviously they have improved alot compared to last gen, I'm thinking 8.5-9.0 for Heavy Rain. And after hearing all thetalk about how bad MAG was, I was thinking 7.5, but then I played the beta, found it really fun, and am thinking 8-8.5.

[QUOTE="Kennysolidsnake"][QUOTE="alextherussian"] Wait so isnt his bad for both camps? Accepting one means accepting the other, no fanboy "wins"..tirralirra
no, earlier in the prevous thread. Lemmings where saying how NOWgamer is the new standard for review sites and made fun of MAG because it got a 6.8 there, just want to make sure they know they gave ODST a 6.3 which BTW is lower than MAG score

This made me lol. Can we confirm that eurogamer is pretty much the only review site that can be trusted. I only like GS cos it has the pros and cons. Overall, the writing on this site is poor.

That's the main reasonI use GS too. Occasionally I useIGN also becasue of the graphics, longevity, etc. are all rated seperately.

Duke Nukem Forever comes to mind. Can't think of a bigger failure than that. Also Haze. Poor, poor Free Radical. Because of that we'll never get to see Timesplitters 4. Silent-Hal

I don't care about TS4, but they had good development on Battlefront 3 that was buried with them.

And might want to look at non-Microsoft developers. Even if your a fanboy, other developers are good.

Blizzard: Amazing, but they need to start releasing their games. D3 and SC2 need to be released. 10 and 12 years is a long time between games.

Bungie: Amazing...for Halo. If they make another amazing game after the Halo series, then they will be altogether amazing

Bioware: Every game of theirs is the exact same, just done differently. The exception is Mass Effect. But Baldur's Gate, KOTOR, and Dragon Age are very similar, just with different settings and characters. Good games, they're just all the same.

Valve: Was amazing but became not amazing after releasing L4D2 only one year after L4D released, destroying their crediablity of releasing games in which significant improvement was made. Past games were amazing though. Should have made Episode 3 before L4D2.

I don't know why you're laughing? because I heard the gameplay of those roguelike mystery dungeon pokemon games are way harder and deeper than any final fantasy game.

Kandlegoat

yeah... mystery dungeon is definitely what i was going for 0_0

I never played them..because i'm not into pokemon...but I do know they're apart of the "Roguelike" subgenre, which is probably the deepest and most brutally challenging type of RPG.

Actually Pokemon is a very complex RPG, it's just all under the hood and never explained in game. It isn't nessessary to do this, as shown by 9 year olds playing the game, but there are things called EV points that you gain from "fainting" wild pokemon and each EV point goes towards a different stat. Like if you kill a Geodude, your pokemon would gain one defense EV, so you actually have to choose which wild pokemon your pokemon fights to gain different stats. My friend does this, but I don't have the attention span to do it.

Of course the fact that the US, the largest consumer market for video games, hashad theunemployment raterise from4.8% to 9.7% over the past two years, and the world as a whole is basically in recession, has nothing to do with studios closing shop.

eveileb-ekam

Again, read the article - expenditure ON video games last year was the best it has EVER been. It has nothing to do with the recession and everything to do with publishers and developers mismanaging their finances, as well as the high cost high risk of developing on consoles.

And if we weren't in a recession, sales would have been even greater, making "high-risk" developing not as risky becasue of the greater chance for success becasue more consumers are puchasing products. That 5% of America could contribute a lot to the gaming market.
