I prefer to max out Metro as best I can. Obviously turned PhysX off and had everything on very high on DX10. Here is a picture of how it runs
I refuse to play it until I get a better GPU. The game looks far too good for me to turn it down. Plus the atmosphere is second to none.

From my experience, I can tell you that having a better GPU is totally worth it in this game. Its brilliant in terms of atmosphere and sound (not GPU related of course).
