gears of war just did 3 million in its first week. you can blame it on the lack of exclusives 360 had this year. i am willing to bet you could have released Gears 3 on january 5th 2011, the numbers would have been similar.
keep on kidding yourselves cows, Gears 3 sold so well because its a huge franchise and a great "must have" game that has been very well received. in the real world, nobody is wandering around going, hmm i better go buy gears3 since its MS's only retail-non-kinect-AAAscoring game since halo reach. cauals play games, they dont care if its 360 exclusive or not.
As I said before, higher sales doesn't mean higher quality, but since its the only part of my post you responded to... Gears hit 3 M in it's first week. Previous Gears games had lifetime sales around 6, so this one will either pass that, or maybe it's just more front-loaded due to everyone pre-ordering to get in the beta (because there wasn't anything else worth playingon 360 at the time ;p ). Either wy, so far, 3 milion. The other 3 xbox 360 exclusives released this year have a combined total of... less than .15 million. 360 exclusive sales (so far) this year: 3.14 million. PS3 exclusives sales (so far) this year: around 7.35 million. No single game has sold as much as Gears3, but the SECOND best selling 360 exclusive so far this year is about 80k. There are 12 PS3 exclusives so far that beat that, 5 of them over half a million... 2 of them over 1.5 million.1 great selling game isn't better than a half-dozen or so good selling games. Having 1 great scoring game is not better than having nearly a dozen good to great scoring games. Gears 3 may be a fantastic game, I've never claimed it isn't, but 1 game doesn't suddenly make the 360's year of absolutely nothing better than the PS3's 9 quality exclusives so far.
Since we are using Gamspot it should be obvious by this point that 6 og those 9 Ps3 quality exclusives have no quality.
