Not worth it. XP still da best.

Based on what? The only excuse is if your rig is having trouble running Win7 (it has to be really puny- like 1GHz CPU and less than 500MB RAM...), but then you wouldn't be able to run any new (and I use term "new" very loosely) game at anywhere near decent graphics, or not at all.

Heya C! As far as I'm concerned, go for it. I've had x64 for months, and so far everything works perfectly. I'm not saying there are absolutely no issues, it's just that I haven't come across any. All the new games are pretty much guaranteed to work, and the old ones seem to be pretty much playable. W7 has also a nifty feature- when installing a non W7 compatible software (I guess it should apply to games too) you can rclk on the install exe file and choose "Troubleshoot compatibility" option. I haven't been looking into what that actually does, but I suspect it modifies the necessary registry entries for that app to be usable with W7. I installed in my company a lot of software with this option, and it proved very effective. I doesn't work 100% of the time, but if it doesn't work just remove the app (uninstall), and nothing will be affected. On the performance note, it does eat up more RAM and it needs a better GPU for gaming. However, this will certainly not affect your rig ;) I hope I helped. If you need some more instructions, please feel free to PM me. I can direct you how to preserve your save games and such... Cheers mate.

It's a shame too since it's a solid enhancement idea. PS - Have you figured out how to edit posts in the time this thread began? :P

Yup :D

[QUOTE="DJ_Headshot"]

been almost a year since i built my rig i7 920,3G ddr 3 ram and i bought my graphics card a 4870 1G back in nov 2008 and i don't expect to upgrade it till 2012-2013 so it will last me a good 3-4 years. and the rest of the pc i proabably won't have to upgrade for another 5-6 years. Pc gaming has become alot cheaper but graphics advancement has pretty much stopped makes you wonder why they keep making even more powerful cards just more of an excuse not to optimize games instead of actually taking advantage of all that power.

couly

You have crazy people out there wanting to max their games at 2560 resolution, (such as Crysis) which is nuts. my max res is 1920 x 1200 but i always play 1680 x 1050 cos I don't see a difference.

Heh. I've got a 22" 16:10 1680x1050 (I also believe that this is pretty darn good resolution, especially when running 8QAA & 16 AF) 2ms Samsung monitor, which is the only thing besides the PSU that remains of my old rig... I'm upgrading to Core i7 860, MSI P55-GD80 mobo, Gigabyte's version of ATI 5870 (these are due tomorrow), and I already bought Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB HDD, CoolerMaster Storm Sniper housing, CoolerMaster V8 CPU cooler & 2x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3 RAM (1600 CL7). I have sent my regards to all my loved ones, cuz they aint gonna see me soon :P

This is my 3rd complete rig overhaull so far. And I got my first PC about 5 years ago. First & second upgrades were after a 2 years of exploatation and this one is a bit over 1 year. Well, 7-8 months if you count my GPU upgrade from MSI 7900 GTO to Gainward GTX 280... :D

So, it seem's I'm picking up the pace... lol!

Hello!

I've been here on GameSpot for quite a while now, and I generally approve the concept and the design of the site (I'd give it a 8.5/10). I have an idea whizzing around in my head for a few days, that I feel would improve my GameSpot experience. It's nothing radical, but rather helpful.

I, and I believe many others, track a lot of games that are yet to be released. Occasionally I'm sorting through all of those games to see which should come out next. Here's where my idea comes in:

- It would be excellent if GS included a, let's name it "Games Countdown" box, which would sport a next game on user's list that should be released (with a cover preview), and a drop menu (or something similar) that lists next games from tracked games list (I believe forming this with "wish list" games would be less appropriate) in chronological order. This, I believe could be incorporated in the "user profile" box in the top-right corner of the page.

I hope it's an idea that will take root, and be implemented in the GS website.

Cheers!
