We know that already. He's talking about the actual Ori games in general regardless of what it's one. And I agree Ori was a great platform but not the very best I played so far.

If we're lumping in platformer as a general term, it was better than the other Xbox offerings...Recore and Super Lucky's Tale.

Best platformer of the gen was easily Super Mario Odyssey.

*Celeste or Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze*

:p

This trailer does make the platforming look a lot better than I expected. I'm still apprehensive about it though

Tropical Freeze came out on Wii U 6 years ago...wouldn't be fair to call it "best" for Switch titles.

But WiiU is part of the PS4 and Xbox One gen. So wouldn't it count as a contender for best platformer of the gen?

@SolidGame_basic: Methinks you are forgetting about possibly the finest platformer of last gen....Ori.

Both Ori games came to Switch and PC

I'm absolutely all about that. It increases the replayablilty of a game 10 fold. I love a game that's designed to master its mechanics.

The grading system in Devil May Cry, Challenge maps in Pikmin 3, the challenges in the Arkham games... These types of features bump up a game for me big time.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Dragon Quest yet so I'll add that one to the list. It's been going for almost 35 years strong.

You know that feeling you got as a kid when you played Mario 64 for the first time and it redefined what was possible in your favourite hobby?

I think I had that same feeling again for the first time in over 20 years. I cannot believe what Nintendo achieved with Breath of the Wild.

In terms of RPG battle systems, if my partner characters are AI controlled it's a hard out from me.

I tend to enjoy turn based battle systems in RPGs like Dragon Quest or Divinity Original Sin. I like to control and strategize with all my party members.

It's been a fantastic gen. I did enjoy God of War, but I tend to gravitate more toward "gamey" offerings instead of story driven experiences

My personal top 5

-Pikmin 3 (2013)

-Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (2014)

-Breath of the Wild (2017)

-Celeste (2018)

-Dragon Quest XI (2018)

True to my name, Pikmin hit me like few other franchises ever have.

Completely unique and geniusly designed.

I still love doing no-death and speed runs of Pikmin 1 and 3

I have played 3DS and to be honest, I wasn't too fond of it.

It had some decent titles. Most notably Samus Returns IMO. I feel like the 3DS is worth it just for that gem of a game.

I think it's the Star Wars and Last of Us fanboys that are overreacting to entries in their favourite franchises.

I say we need more risky, divisive works in mainstream media. We cant just have the same thing again and again in an endless loop.

But thats not the problem. The problem is that these entries were done POORLY.

They were done poorly in your opinion. Art is subjective.
