If I were to call one game a masterpiece it would be Breath of the Wild. That game is transcendent. There was nothing like it before and nothing like it since.

I only played 3 games so far and want to try out some other titles, but here's my opinion on the games so far
Tears of the Kingdom: As the sequel to my favourite game of all time, this game was a massive disappointment. Everything that made BOTW outstanding was shirked for much less engrossing mechanics. Exploration was less rewarding, shrines were less thought out, the story is straight nonsense, etc.
Street Fighter 6: more than 90% of my gaming time is spent with street fighter and this is as good as a first iteration can be. Outside of a few nitpicks like how overly aggressive the game is with things like drive rush and throw loops, the game has a solid foundation. I just need to find a main.
Pikmin 4: The most content rich entry in the series. It's a great game, but a bit too easy and I prefer the more time constrained entries of Pikmin 1 and 3. This is probably my favourite game so far this year though.
I hope not. The only reason I intend to pick up a PS5 is to bring a console to fighting game locals. I was hoping it wouldn't be an odd shape. I've been waiting on a slim version because the PS5 is massive and horribly shaped for transport.
PS4 is the only time Sony made a clean compact, appealing console.
I might be becoming a broken record at this point, but TOTK being the sequel to my favourite game of all time made me hope for a game that would build and expand upon the vision that came before it. I was surprised to see they undid what made BOTW so progressive as an open world game in favor of something more generic. BOTW was a fully immersive experience that was more about the journey than the destination. TOTK is about a laundry check list that focuses on the destination while not caring about the journey at all.
Also the story and upheaval stuff is absolute nonsense. Why did anything happen? Why are there sky islands?
It really felt like some other team took over and made a sequel without having a clue what made the first game so good.
I still have to finish Pikmin 4, but it's between Pikmin 4 and Street Fighter 6 right now. Both are delivering in spades.
Tears of the Kingdom is among my biggest disappointments in some time. Especially considering Breath of the Wild is my all time favourite game. Everything that made BOTW special and so progressive as an open world experience was done away with in favor of elements I did not care for. It was worse than its predecessor in basically every single way in my eyes.
@Litchie: while it was very likely I'd like Pikmin 4 because of my love of the series it was no guarantee
Breath of the wild became my favourite game of all time, but Tears of the Kingdom was a monumental let down in almost every way. I did not like the direction they took at all.
This game seems to take after pikmin 2 and the length seems to follow suit. It does correct the biggest issue of Pikmin 2 with making the dungeons hand crafted. They were randomly generated in Pikmin 2
I was away for a while so I hadn't had too much time with the game until recently. It's absolutely fantastic so far!
It's en route to join the all time best Switch games along side Breath of the Wild and Metroid Dread. This series never misses
It's Breath of the Wild for me and it's not even close.
Every time I played an open world game since, I can't force myself enough to finish it. It just makes me want to go back to BOTW. And I do every single time. It still feels like the most progressive open world game to date and not even it's own sequel surpassed it in that regard.
BOTW is such a wholly immersive and cohesive experience. There's just nothing else like it out there right now.
