@snxx @hector530 "Nope, they aren't. Books are still one of the best way to tell a story and they have no graphics. "
Too bad most everyone doesn't read books. Graphics is still more important to people. If it wasn't, then people would know how much Star Wars rips-off the Dune books. Or see how much James Cameron's Avatar rips-off The Jesus Incident.
People want to *see* things, not just read about them.
@pip3dream Yes you do. What if you wanted to show a huge army, coming over the mountains? You would need powerful graphics to show all that, wouldn't you? Or what if you wanted something like this in real-time?:
Oh boy, everyone is going to hate me for this, but I'll be the bad guy here.
Games will get cheaper. How do I know this? Because this guy (Samuel Lapere) made a real-time renderer of path tracing:

This is his site: http://raytracey.blogspot.be/2013/03/real-time-path-traced-carmageddon.html
This is a *very* big deal. With a real-time path tracer, you can have all the super Photorealistic lighting you want , without having to do a thing, and you can have billions of polygons! In fact, he said "we can do 60 billion polygons at 30 fps". That's great, because all games uses Normal Mapping, and Normal Mapping is made from 3D modles with millions of polygons. If we didn't have to use Normal Mapping, Displacement mapping, UV Mapping, Reflection Mapping, or Texture then games could be 1000 times easier to make graphics. Just look at the awesome Zbrush modles they used for God of War Ascension:
@DragonMage2k4 And yet, people who should know better, payed over a billion dollars for each of Michael Bay's Transformers movie, just to see giant robots.
@atlanticmoon Well, When you said "there is nothing next gen about the PS4 and Xbox 720" I assume you were one of those guys who doesn't care for better hardware, or something.
@IanNottinghamX @atlanticmoon What stagnation?! We're going to have thousands of bad guys/NPCs and Massive Destruction in Real-Time for the Next-Gen. How is that stagnation?
If anything, people like you guys who want to stay in the past forever, is what's going to stagnate games.
@wexorian Your high, aren't you? We are, at the very least, going to have thousands of bad guys/NPCs and Massive Destruction in Real-Time. What's not unique about that?
