I'm currently playing Supreme Commander and am very impressed with the games so far. Despite its framerate problems during very large battles (which actually give you more time to plan your strategy) the game is really fun. I'll try to have a review written within a week or so.
Enjoy this very short video (~5 sec).... of...not Supreme Commander!
(I've been trying to embed the video, but I guess the link will have to do for now)
I've done it! I cancelled my subscription to World of Warcraft. I've been playing for almost a year now, and I really enjoyed most of the time I spent in the game. It's definitely as addictive as they all say it is. The guild that I had been part of for about 7-8 months broke up a few weeks ago. Once that happened I lost almost all interest in the game. I've realized that the people I knew in game were the things that kept me playing. I lost touch with friends in real life, but I did meet a lot of new people, using the chat in game and the VoiP program Teamspeak.
There was an article on GS about gaming addiction possibly being officially termed a disorder. Its really not all that surprising, but what struck me was the point that people turn to social relationships on the internet because maybe its easier for them to make those relationships than it is in real life. I can definitely relate to that point.
This summer I am working in a lab almost full time, and I need to devote more of my free time to preparing for the MCAT and applying to med school. I decided to return back to multi-gaming (playing lots of "shorter" games, i.e. not WoW) so I have a more fluid schedule. I hope I can start getting out more and actually be able to visit with friends instead of being in a raid every night.
I'm going to try posting on here alot more often, about the games I'm playing and about major gaming news.
This is my first blog post for TV.com. I must say, this site is setup very well. Kudos to cnet. I don't watch TV all that often, but this will be a nice site just to check in to see whats goin' on.
For the last few days, I have been playing Halflife 2 Deathmatch and have found it to be very fun to play. Plus, I have rediscovered my skill in FPS on the PC. Of the few maps I have played, I have gotten first place or very close almost every time. The physics engine allows you to toss items at other players. I find toilet sniping to be my favorite killing method.
I bought Tales of Symphonia about 3-4 weeks ago and finished it just last weekend. The characters in the game are cel-shaded, which I have grown to really enjoy. What really got me into ToS was the storyline. Everytime I thought I was getting to the end of the game, there would just be more stuff to do.
The ending was kind of strange, almost dissapointed, but I felt I had a great gamin experience spending almost 34 hours on the game. Unlike most RPG's I have beaten before, ToS actually lets you "buy" stuff for the next time you play through it. This stuff includes things such as transfered skills from your previous save, increased EXP, transfered titles, and many many others. The 10x EXP would have been nice, but I had only 10% of the required grade to get it....
I highly recommend this game to any one who owns a Gamecube and likes RPGs, because there certainly aren't any other really good RPGs (that I have played).
BTW, Tales of Symphonia does not have a turn-based combat system. It is a real-time battle where you control your main characters while the other 3 in your party are on Auto (though you can tell them what to do in the menu.)
