[QUOTE="PoundYourButt"]It amazes me how so many people think that only Microsoft can provide SONY with proper competition. There are a lot of other companies that can do the same thing.groowagon
who do you think would go against a giant like Sony if not MS? if another giant like MS can't make it work, you think there will be other manufacturers willing to go there? i don't think so.
Let's go through the top IT companies in the world. Apple - DEFINITELY NO. Unless you want PS2 specced consoles in 2013 with a $700 pricetag, Apple would be worse than Microsoft. Samsung - This is definitely a possibility. What people don't realize is that almost all the components in their electronics is Samsung technology (Example: Retina display). Samsung is one of the companies in the front of the Supply Chain web that is responsible for the progression of technology. Where do you think the high density GDDR5 RAM came from to make 8 GB of GDDR5 in SONY's PS4 a reality? Not from SONY. Apple, SONY, Nintendo and Microsoft are at the very end of the Supply Chain web and can only buy from what manufacturers like Samsung have currently achieved. SONY's engineers (As well as Apple's, Nintendo's and Microsoft's) are merely checklist engineers and ensure all the components are in the right place. Samsung's dominance in the Supply Chain will allow them to form the most powerful console on the market with a lower pricepoint than SONY (That's how Samsung displaced Japanese rivals in the Television market). Samsung is also comprised of over 100 companies. Just one of the companies, Samsung Electronics, makes the same annual profit as Microsoft does. Just think how much in profit Samsung makes with all of its companies. They can easily buy their way into the market. Google - Another possibility. Google's bottom-line is formed from advertisements, so they're not looking to make a profit on hardware. They'd sell it below manufacturing cost and litter the homescreen with ads.
