The DSi has been out for months in Japan. Looking over the DSiWare content, everything seems to be puzzle games, half-baked alternatives to full games, ports of phone and iPhone games, and applications like maps. Mario vs Donkey Kong will be the first full non-puzzle game designed for the DSi exclusively. Are there currently DSiWare titles that you'd buy a DSi for?

Hopefully the FaceBook will be a start. However, it's nearly as quick to just load photos onto your computer (especially in bulk), and then you can edit your profile, on the computer. The DSi can only load photos, not change around whole pages.

The main problem with the DSi at the moment is that it doesn't have much going for it. The people who are going to buy it for the cameras and music have already bought it. The people who thought Nintendo would be quicker starting DSiWare up well have bought it (me). The guys who want to always be at the cutting edge have already bought it. A vast majority of people, who still play on their DS', PSPs, or alternative have not been impressed by the motives of the above, and want something more from the DSi. There are three ways I could see this heading:

Focus on DSiWare: Creating lots of good games exclusively for download, and hopefully investing in a Virtual Console idea

Focus on functionality: More photo editing, myspace and Facebook compatibility, chat rooms, flash player, etc

Focus on DSi cartridges: Gradually removing normal DS cartridges, effectively forcing DS owners to upgrade

Though I'd appreciate the second two, I think I'd like the first most, especially the idea of a Virtual Console.

Hell, I think EVERYONE wants a Virtual Console. Chances are we'll get one, almost every single website featuring the DSi has complained about the lack of VC, and Nintendo isn't blind. However, Nintendo has made its announcements for E3, and for the DSi there was Moving Memo, and Mario vs Donkey Kong. I feel frustrated, Nintendo seems to have abandoned their new product, before it's truly begun its life. I say that if we don't get something good for DSi soon, we should try and persuade Nintendo to give it to us. Homebrew looks more and more appealing every day the DSi stagnates. I think we should start a massive internet petition to send to Nintendo, showing our plea.

Thoughts?

Moving memo is in US Summer, and Mario vs Donkey Kong is DSi, but apart from that, nothing

The DS has a pretty strong line-up, but Nintendo still hasn't given people a reason to buy the DSi.

Where's the heavy DSiWare support?

Where's the Virtual Handheld?

Sure, moving memo and Facebook may help, but it isn't enough.

It would be well recieved. The Pokemon guys said in an interview that there was a major announcement coming up for Pokemon, but wouldn't give any hints. I'm hoping this announcement will be...

a) a rejig of the franchise, 3-D battles, more focus on the exploration, elements of real time, something like that

b) re-releases of the Pokemon back catalogue, as ports or remakes, on DSiWare or DSi cartridges (we've lost GBA compatibility, so there's bound to be a compromise). Hopefully these would have some kind of Pal Park compatibility.

c) remakes of G/S/C, perhaps implementing a)'s points

d) a Pokemon game with ALL the worlds. I can dream, can't I?

The reason everyone likes G/S/C the best is because they were Pokemon at their prime. Riding the success of B/R/Y, the games didn't feel unoriginal, they had two regions to explore, legendary Pokemon worth catching, day and night, an exciting story, Pokemon personalities and much more. Since then, Pokemon has turned into a rehash exercise, I can't think of anything revolutionary that the Pokemon games since have come up with.

Wow, that's rather impressive. All we've got in the US are priced, half-baked demos (For now). Nice comments!

KurodaMurasaki

Yeah, although you'll be getting it soon, and we don't have Doctor Mario (yet). I just saw a video of Katamari DSi, it looks like another puzzle game... But the future looks bright.

By the way, it also has touch screen controls, which are apparently good, but I haven't tried them yet.

I can't post any of me playing, but Google "real football dsi" (not in speech marks) and click the first link, there's an article (it doesn't want to let me post the link).

I think it's only in European, and Australasian territory at the moment, but there'll be an upcoming release (according tohttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_DSiWare_games_and_applications), but it's less about the game, more showcasing the DSiWare.

It seems relatively unknown, no YouTube hits, and few Google hits

I just downloaded Real Football (soccer for you Americans) off DSiWare, and I can now happily say that the DSi will be worth it. Though I'm not a big fan of sports games, and Real Football is no Pro Evo, or FIFA, it is a shining example of what the DSiWare is capable of. Real Football is a fully fledged game, over 100 teams, individual player names, training, tournaments, and multiplayer, and all done in fully 3-D graphics. I just plastered my head on the ball, the flags, the stadium and the players using the camera! Though I'd never buy this game in a shop, the cheap price, small download and overall quality of the game makes it well worth getting. If games like this carry on coming, not lazy demos, or gimmicky junk, but proper games, which people have put time into, then I can safely say that the DSi is well worth getting, for the DSiWare alone.
