The DSi isn't so appealing at the moment because DSiWare isn't in full swing. Hopefully, by E3, it'll have some must-have titles. As well as a Virtual Handheld.

And until then, core gamers should be satisfied with GTA:CW. Remember that your average core gamers will only really be playing handhelds when they don't have access to a console, so they shouldn't complete CW too quickly.

My first game was Mario Kart. Too bad I sold it 2 weeks after purchase. Never knew I could get really bored from it.-_Cloud_-

You got bored of MARIOKART? I guess you might if it's your only game, I just began a revival for my DSi, it plays way better. My first game was First Hunt and Super Mario 64 DS (which I played before that) combined. It's a shame no DS game to date has gone for the style of SM64, I still think it has the best graphics on the system...

There needs to be more imagination in this topic.. Nintendo's next gen handheld will not likely be anything like the DS, nor will it have dual screens at all. IF they retain touch screen technology I can imagine it'll be one single touchscreen. It will likely be a lot thinner, new tech is always on the smaller side. Probably more in line with the iPod Touch than the DS, a slim, almost ALL screen, touchscreen handheld that can be played portrait or landscape. Hopefully with a retractable analogue stick and gamecube level graphical power.

I'm fairly certain the guys at Nintendo have bigger plans for their next actual handheld other than the 'it's like a DS only with more stuff' approach

I think some of that's a bit rash. Why would Nintendo get rid of even more backwards compatibility by removing one of the screens? I think you've got an nPhone in mind, not a new handheld. People would see it as a downgrade, or an attempt to imitate the iPhone or PSP. There's no evidence whatsoever as to the new Nintendo handheld.

I don't understand why so many people are complaining. No matter how many people they dissuade here (and I don't know why they want to, it's just giving Nintendo more money to do better things), the DSi is going to print money, a la Wii and Lite. Dragging down Nintendo on a Nintendo forum seems paradoxical, and a waste of time.

But also think of the possibilities the SD cards could give. Even if a Virtual Handheld never appears, the connectivity to the computer can give a wealth of new options for the DSi. If all the rest of Nintendo's downloadable games are crap, people will still eventually work out how to get homebrew onto their DSis, via the SD card, and the DSi will be able to host many new games coming from indie developers. In the first few days of its release in Japan, the DSi was hacked (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaKxWSENwGo), and this shows that the DSi can be capable of big things.

[QUOTE="skingus"]Why get dsi? Sorry if already asked. I own a nice digital camera, and hd video camera. How does this enhance games? They took away gba slot, and the screen size is not significant enough.Handheld_Dude91
I agree, I see no real reason to get a DSi except for the new capability of downloading stuff. It's a DS Lite with two really bad cameras and an SD card slot

The cameras are perfect for having a bit of fun, they aren't meant to be powerful cameras you use on holidays and photoshoots. They're there to perform the same function as a phone camera, but with better editing tools. But the real reason to get a DSi is the extra power (quadruple Lite's RAM) and the DSi exclusives, not only on the DSiWare, but the eventual DSi exclusive game cards, and DSi enhanced DS games. Article on them here...http://au.ds.ign.com/articles/966/966301p1.html

I think it needs:

  1. Improved hardware (graphics, RAM, etc) to bring it up to PSP standards (at least)
  2. Membership support for online (like Steam, XBOX Live, PSN), so you know what friends are online, and what they're playing, to make online playing a whole lot easier
  3. Larger scale multiplayer (at least 8 players for most games), I felt MPH was especially lacking with only 4 player support, and games like COD DS really need more players
  4. Virtual Handheld, for all your retro handheldy goodness
  5. More remakes. I WANT OCARINA OF TIME ON DS

I found it incredibly easy to work, but you aren't missing out on too much. It's one of those games you don't play, instead you have it as a gimmick to show all your friends (who constantly play it because they don't own it) and you can all have a laugh about how retarded they look. I hope Nintendo expands on this and makes a fully fledged game.

They wouldn't make it real-time. Not only would it disrupt the fanbase, it would also get rid of a lot of the depth and tactics the Pokemon series is renowned for, and probably make the game shorter. I'd prefer the handheld versions move into the 3-D realm, cel-shaded like Phantom Hourglass but with a view from the back (like DQM:Joker, if any of you played it). That would be worth getting.

What are you on about? It's not going to have Gamecube graphics!?

[QUOTE="feryl06"]It looks nice, and will probably sell really well with those who already have a DS phat or DS lite. It really is bad that they got rid of the GBA slot---and please don't tell me to just a GBA cause who wants to carry the DS and a GBA around. I wonder if they'll just sell the BIG GBA games as downloads and phase out making GBA games.darkwolfyboy
The DS version of wiiware includes GBA

And they haven't released any information on the DSi shop, apart from that all downloads will be split into four pricing schemes, the most expensive being full games. They haven't confirmed or denied GBA games on it (although it's likely). Try to put all your messages in one post, it just clogs up space.

The Wii can play Gamecube games, and download N64, SNES and etc. games, giving access to titles from all of Nintendo's home consoles. With the removal of the GBA slot it seems logical for Nintendo to put GBA games on the Virtual Console, to give players access to all of Nintendo's handhelds, giving it retro capabilities nearly equalling the Wii's. These could feasibly allow Pokemon players to use their virtual console's Pokemon for Pal Park (though this is unlikely (but if you could import from GBC games, etc. Imagine an easy way to get Lugia and Ho-oh!)).

The DS-i will have region specifics on its software, but not on general DS games, but chances are, there'll be a fair few DS-i exclusive games (lEyetoy style games). But these could also take advantage of the DS-i's other features, such as it's music playback (a sort of DJ game), and its bigger screens (slightly more graphically capable games). Unluckily this means that there'll be no imports of zany Japanese camera games, which I'm not normally into, anyway). Apparently it's region specific to allow faster internet speeds.

What I want to see is apps, homebrew, and semi-games (My Life As A King, and other games not on Virtual Console, but on the Shop Channel) available on the download service.

Though I'll miss the volume slider, I have heard that all previous volume dials on Gameboys have not actually turned the sound up and down, instead just muffling it in some convoluted method, and I will feel reassured by the volume buttons (I don't know if any of this is true, I'm not an expert).

I guess the bottom line for most will be whether they have wi-fi or not. Without it they won't be able to user the faster speeds, the browser or the shop. Luckily, I do have wi-fi, so it's a definate purchase for me.
