ATI cards are better, I'v been an ATI guy since I switched my VooDoo 5 to a Radeon 8500 and never left. There have been issues, mostly driver issues, but ATI always releases new drivers and fixes quick and te price/performance cannot be beat, even when tey realease the Top of the line card its priced fairly, unlike nvidea's $800 cards that are just silly.

The problem is that nearly no games (that I know) are optomized for a dual core GPU, its the same reason the intel e8400 Dual core is way faster then the Q6600 Quad Core. If games were optomized for multi core gpu's the 3870x2 would win, at this time the 4850 is the faster card, it also runs cooler, and requires a little less power on load, So I would reccomend the newer, single GPU card. I have the 4870 and I love it, so the 4850 is the better option imo.

yea the p43 chipset is no good, It has memory timing issues, When you build a pc the mother board should be you FIRST purchase people ;) For the average setup it will be fine but if you want to run anything over 800mhz memory you have very limited options. You should buy a mobo with the p45 (new) x38 or p35 chipset. The p35 is older but will support crossfire which is great for future upgrades and asus is a great name (the p43 board was a rare error). I would recommend the Asus P5KC, it supports everything like Xfire, DDR3, Quad Core. If you want a newer board I would recomend the Asus P5Q Deluxe, fantastic board (without xfire though). both of these will run you about $130.

limited write cycles, I hope not. And yes the Hard drive is the slowest part of almost any pc, from what I have seen these new drives transfer data more then 800% faster then a WD raptor. Does anyne know if they funtion the same, as far as read write, can you partition them ect

Does anyone have a SSD (Solid state drive) yet?? and if so is it your main drive or are u running a standard hd with it? I am interested in this new technology for my new pc, I undertand it is almost instant data access and with no moving parts and videos of it booting vista in 12 seconds.... its tempting. But at a cost of $450 or more for 128gb's is it worth it yet?????

that seems strange, I might be inclined to say it's your mboard, nforce boards...... are crap (ati fanboy alert). If you dont think your mobo is the problem check your powersupply, when they go they power off, hang, smell like burnt clutch ect.

I hated vista at first, but with 4 gigs of ram, or more (if you have vista 64) it's great. There are still driver issues, and you need 3rd party patches and fixes to play some older games battlefield 2 ect, as long as your system has adequate memory it works great with improvments like alt/tab from ingame throwing you to desktop in miliseconds.

If anything the last two years have shown that console gaming is dieing, you now have 3 very different consoles, all of which cost less then a gaming pc but offer very little diversity in game play. The fact that there is still a big competition with consoles is proof that the evolution of consoles have hit the plateau. If console gaming is to survive like pc has, there needs to be one, unified option, wheather it's from microsoft, sony, nintendo. Windows has been the pc gaming platform for as long as I can remember, due to this the games have evolved with windows. Sony has nothing new, the xbox is a pc withought the versitility of a pc, and nintendo is still for little kids who play with lego. I admit Nintendo is the only one who has evoled the game play of consoles, this time around. PC gaming will live on, with a host of exciting new titles, the ability of customize your rig, the new tech, its an exciting time and the future looks good, and yes the glory days of pc gaming are dead, The future however, looks bright.
