''OEM Versions are intended to be sold to Original Equipment Manufacturers. There is no phone support from Miscrosoft provided, no retail packaging, and no manual provided. Support is supposed to be come from the system builder. An OEM version will allow either an upgrade or a clean install. You must chose 32 or 64-bit verisons, they are not both included like they are with the retail vesions. Finally, OEM licenses can't be transfered to another system. You can't transfer from an old computer to a new one. If you upgrade your system, you're limited as to what you can change, and how many activations you're allowed.''

Just to quote a certain text on the net I searched.

Seems contradicting, again. Isn't that considered a retail packaging? Including a manual.

Everything that is written in the net, is contradicting my experience.

My oem version infact DOES have a manual and box.

Looks similiar like this.

I of course naturally tried using the search function. I found different forum threads, articles etc claiming different things. So now i'm starting to get a bit skeptical here :z

It needs to be the same type of disc also, you probably already know just making sure. I mean your key will only work with another retail version if its a retail copy... or OEM if its an oem copy. Some braindead mod is probably going to mod me for saying this tho...

Captain__Tripps

As far as i'm aware the windows installation cannot recognise wheter your disk is a copy or not. And besides, it doesn't matter. As long as you have a legit cd key code from your purchase. Thats what matters, or am I misunderstanding how the software works?

Edit: I have a OEM of my Vista home premium 32 bit. I bought it in my local hardware/software store. Could you care to explain me the difference?

64-bit and 32-bit uses the same cd key. Captain__Tripps

[QUOTE="PullTheTricker"][QUOTE="IQT786"]what i did was call microsoft paid the 8 gbp about 10 euros then they sent me the 64bit disc if any of your friends have the disk you can use it with your own license code from 32bitIQT786

Well, so there is no need to pay any additional cash just to upgrade?

Am I ok using my relatives disk? Activating it with my own license code from home premium 32 bit of course.

simple answer yes

Allright good :)

Thanks both for the responses.

Did you open the Vista CD yet?

Subcritical

Well of course I have :)

I used it for a few weeks or so, before going back again to XP.

well if you have 4 gig then go for it. but there is comaptibilty issues. like i bought a ****** wireless usb that said compatible with vista little did i know it said inside 32 bitNSR34GTR

I am considering to upgrade 4GB. Thats not the big deal here, they are dirt cheap at my place anyway :P

As for the compatibility issues, I'm hearing alot of positive feedback actually. But I think my hardware is compatible anyways.
