If you know what you're doing, building a computer is definitely the way to go. I just built one for myself (Specs in sig), and was just recently talking to a friend who was trying to find a pre-built one. He found one who's specs were similar (Not identical, but close enough for any differences to be mostly irrelevant.) and it cost a good $400 more than what I had spent on individual parts.

Well first off, GMod10 is supported by patches and stuff, in keeping with Steam. Secondly, it's loaded with new features such as warping, it's a hell of a lot more stable than GMod 9, and it's also very polished. GMod9 was fun but you could tell it was the doing of one guy. GMod10 looks very professional, which makes for a better experience.

There's really no better way to spend 10 bucks.

It's not listed on nVidia's site. I think I'll wait until they put it up before I grab it.

Hell, Garry's Mod 9 probably deserved a review it was so good. Now it's got the retail treatment and tons of polish. Definitely deserves Gamespot's attention.

Penumbra.... Only game I've had fun with in a while..FrozeN__54
Definitely. I'm not too far into it yet, but it's the first time in a very long while that a game has actually scared me. I'm glad to see that someone is using atmosphere and background to induce fear, rather than the cheap pop-up scares that recent horror games have been using. Penumbra is definitely worth the money.

as odd as this sounds, the best thing i love about Freespace 2 is actually the story, not the combat ( although that also is top-notched ). the way the game narrates its story really gives me the feeling that i am part of the galactic epic riddled with all sorts of transcendental symbols ( i was gonna say modernist, but meh ). i don't know if this is ironic.......but the only truly gripping story to me is that of a space sim. :)

that's why i never went back again.....coz i doubt a mod community can give me that feeling. combat, yes, more than possible. but not the story. not the shivans.....not the lost generation.

Doesn't sound strange at all. The story was one of the central reasons I was so into the game.

I would like to see a Pc handle Gears Of War heheotepadilla
High-end PCs would play Gears of War without trouble. While I love the 360 and play it regularly, it is not the godly machine you seem to think it is.

It's time to face the facts: Far Cry was a revolutionary shooter. The graphics were fantastic, the AI was fantastic, and the level design was fantastic. The only complaints any sane person can have of the game is the garbage story, and that's it.

How is the story any more garbage than that of say: Half-Life, Fear, Stalker, Unreal, Doom, Painkiller, etc. etc..? I mean seriously, you define the story as garbage like if it's fact, while infact it's highly subjective. I'm not saying the story of Far Cry is a masterpiece either, but calling it garbage is just a bias and not a definate truth (or fact) in the least.

On a side note, I really liked Half-Life's story. The intricacies of it can become very engrossing.

The thing about PC Gaming is that it's an enthusiast market. The only people who are going to be deep into PC Gaming are the ones who can afford very powerful rigs that can handle the latest games.

Consoles are excellent for the large amount of people who don't want to have to worry about technical details, and who just want to get what they pay for and play their games. What's so wrong with that? Consoles and PCs cater to two different kinds of people. I like both. I have my gaming PC right beside my Xbox 360, and I play both of them regularly. Each one has pros and cons, and while the PC is always on the cutting edge of raw power, there are plenty of arguments on the Console side as well. Neither is superior to the other.

I remember buying Freespace merely by chance. I went into the store looking for something completely different. I was on my way out and saw Freespace sitting on the shelf, on sale for about 30 bucks. I looked at it, and it seemed pretty cool, so I figured "What the hell" and bought it. Best random purchase I ever made.

I still play the game now and then, even after having it for nearly 8 years. There's still a tiny glimmer of hope inside me that someday, somewhere, somebody will find a way to continue the franchise...
