According to this,

http://xtreview.com/review203.htm

The 8600 is very similar to the 1950 and 7950, So if the 8600 is crap I guess there crap too.

This is a good review for the 8600, Pretty much same scores i get

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ATI/HD_2600_XT/6

For the higher resolutions the 8600 isent the greatest,

but if your only playing in 1024x768 or 1280x1024 it's a great card,

some of the time in lower resolution its almost just as fast a 8800.

Metroid_Time

wow I didn't know the 2600XT was so bad :(

You gotta look at the numbers too, sometimes the graph makes it look like a huge difference but the numbers are only like 5 or 10 fps difference.

Sure its two times better than a 8600GT but it also costs twice as much.

nohnaimer

Actually i think its almost three times as much.

Well if it serves you fine, don't worry about.

But you could download FRAPS and record a gaming session to find the average FPS.

I already gave you a link to a review of my 8600gt that also includes about a dozen games that were measured with fraps

Try playing on a monitor bigger than 19". ;)

Wesker776

Why go out and drop $200+ on a new monitor just to prove that your graphics card can't handle it?

I'm just saying that an 8600GT will choke on anything bigger than a 19" monitor and it struggles to give you decent performance in games such as SupCom, FEAR, Company of Heroes and etc...

works fine on my 21"

See, now I find that hard to believe:

Also, my apologies for appearing to rain on his parade, but I just think that the 8600GT doesn't stand much of a chance for maxed out features or high resolutions.

That's not to say it's a bad card, it will serve its purpose to replace the 7600GT in DX10 games and it looks like a good laptop GPU.

I dont know about those benchmarks they seem kind of wrong to me, but i own a 8600gt (overclocked tho) and it plays everything maxed 1280x1024 with at least 2xAA.

The 8600GT is a great card for its price range, combining 7900GS performance with DX10 capability. You guys have got to realise that most ppl have screens that are equal to or less than 19" and thus don't play at uber resolutions. For a 19" screen, the 8600GT can provide a decent gaming experience, without bursting the bank of a casual gamer. The 8600GTS, on the other hand, is a total waste of money and i wouldn't advise anyone to get it.WhOOmpa260

I think the gts is good too, but if you overclock the gt is comes really close to the gts, so I dont recomend the gts, for that reason.

I gotta get in here and defend my purchase!!!!!!!!!

The 8600gt plays every single game available on max settings, whats so crap about that?

el_carl

Max without AA/AF that is. And at a low resolution.

Max with full AF, and most of the time full AA (at least 2xAA)@ 1280x1024

Which game may I ask?
