The markets have spoken and have chosen that HD graphics are not as important as next-generation gameplay.

If it were to come out for Sony, why not make it up to PS2 specs. Much larger userbase with that, plus it can be ported to the Wii, 360, and PS3 no problem from there.

Firstly, last month Wii outsold 360, PS3, PS2, and PSP combined...with the GTA4 release too. Then there is the DS.

Also, your numbers don't account for the fact that many people buy PS3s and use them as a Blu Ray player and don't even play videogames.

But even if you dont take that into account, there is more to it than that. Combine PS2 with Wii and the number is 140+ million to 32 million. (when developers cross-develop for a multi-platform release, it's normally a 360/PS3 combo like COD4. the Wii/PS2 relationship is different. theyre are PS2 ports like Okami or the games will be identical graphically like COD3 and Tiger Woods)

Plus, it's cheaper to develop a game for Wii and PS2 than 360 and PS3. Even though more games can be sold if release on both systems versus the Wii, profit margins can still be better on the Wii (that is based on a number of variables).

That aside. Let's say you develop a game for only one. Using vgcharts' fuzzy numbers, Wii has a share of 40-45% of the market. 360 has 32ish. PS3 has 22ish%. (I know the numbers aren't 100% but they are close enough to prove that the Wii has a commanding market share...)

Lastly, let's look at what you bring up HD isn't pushing those consoles, but the Wii is selling because of the gameplay. HD movies is a factor. Better graphics (resolution is only an aspect of this part). Lastly, there are the games. GTA4, COD4, Halo 3, Gears and other blockbuster games are the main reason for those sales.

Wii doesn't have any of that. No Blu Ray or DVDs. Graphics normally look like GC. The most popular games are either minigames (WiiSports, Mario Party) or Nintendo franchises that don't come close to the sales of GTA, Halo, or COD (Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, and SSB are big but dont produce the massive public frenzies like those do).

That leaves the Wii with no impressive graphics. Its franchises didn't push GC sales above its competition the last two generations- I fail to see how Wii sales would be different from the GC with another Mario, Zeld, Mario Kart, and SSB. Halo 1 put the Xbox above the GC with all those aged series. Its online gaming is still a joke. Basically the Wii is running on purely next generation gameplay.

HD is still not that important and isn't the reason why the 360 and PS3 have achieved commercial success. Next generation gameplay remains the reason why the Wii dominates with roughly 45% of the console market.

i know girls who never played videogames besides tetris and NES mario and are buying a wii soon. it's a vast casual market these days. seriously, a wii sports sequel would be one of the biggest games this year if released. GTA4 cant push 360 and PS3 sales combined more than the Wii's with Mario Kart.

if anything, the hardcore gaming market need to unite. if MGS4 doesn't sell well like poeple say it wont, what incentive to developers to push graphics and challenging gameplay? if PS3 and 360 combined can't outsell the wii with the release of one of the highest reviewed and best games in years, what incentive does MS and Sony have to create significantly more powerful nex gen systems like Xbox 3 and PS4? wii fit has a higher mass market awareness than mgs4 right now. talk wiht people who game lightly (even PS3 owners), you will find people who don't know what MGS is. i show people snake in SSBB and i keep on getting "what is metal gear solid?".

if the hardcore gaming community cant produce enough demand soon, gaming will go where the money is, and that is a direction away from what we would prefer. even as a wii owner, i fear this because Metroid, Zelda and Mario series will suffer the same fate.

Im not convinced, I think at best the Wii will only secure it as a timed exclusive, maybe thats just because I hope it comes to the PS3? Either way I think it has a pretty good chance of arriving on the PS3 at some point.

If it comes out with Sony, it'll prolly be on the PS2 due to hardware closeness. Good Wii graphics are sub-par on the PS3. It'd need a major face-lift for the PS3 or the reviews will prolly blast it. Maybe the PS3 could play it through backwards compatibility...

Those rating are based off the worst site for reviewing PS3 games. Uncharted andd Ratchet Clank were both definatley AAA games. Also they're not counting Sigma as an exclusive but you can go etiher way on whether or not its is.Also on IGN a better site for PS# games Folklore which is probably the most underated game of the year is amazing and Resistance deserved better tahn an 8.6 here on GS. That's 4 (or 5) right there.

I own a PS3 I disagree with the statement there is good exclusive games on it. I also own the Wii and I disagree with the statement there is only a couple good exclusives. That called an opinion but it is my to have.

If you're comparing the PS3 and Wii directly, using games like GTA4 or CoD4 would count in the PS3's favor since the Wii does not have them... You really can't assume most people have a 360 especiallly if total Wii sales are higher than total 360 sales. >_>

Those games that are only for 360 and PS3 go to the 360s favor. The PS3 still costs significantly more money. If anything, those games should count against the PS3.

Is that supposed to be a negative for the Wii? If anything, it's terrible business and marketing on Sony and MS' part. Nintendo came from a distant 3rd place last gen to the undisputed champion this gen. I'm glad you enjoy GTA4, MGS4, and Halo 3. I can play other rehashed franchises that I enjoy moreso than those. However, I've been a Nintendo stockholder since 2005. Therefore, I won.

That analogy doesn't work either way. The Wii is a specialty tho. It has next generation gameplay. Very few games out ofr coming out for PS3 or 360 would be easily released on Xbox or PS2 with only watered down graphics. SMG would lose the whole star-bit aspect on GC. RE4's aiming becomes more challegging. WiiSports would be played with one or two buttons. Internet Channel would be terrible. WarioWare would be a button masher. Wiicade.com would be an addictinggames.com ripoff. Halo 3 is Halo 2 with new featueres and better graphics. Gears could work on Xbox with lesser graphics. CoD4 in the same way too. GT5's new physics and graphics don't change gameplay much.

When the PS3 and 360 could handle WiiSports' gameplay, I'll change my stance.
