It's possible, but I am hoping for Nintendo to really try with the FPS (not counting Metroid Prime) or RTS genres...both genres the WiiMote can potentially advance.

StarFox could be incredible with the WiiMote. Maybe gameplay similar to RogueSquadron combined with classic StarFox.

DK Country series, as ideal DK game, is really hard to accomplish in 3D. DK 64 was great, but that, Banjo, Conker, and Mario all had very similar gameplay. That said, I would love for Miyamoto (who has 0 projects to work on currently that we know of) to prove me wrong on this.

How about something new for once? Not the same old Mario/Zelda rehashes.Dahaka-UK

That seems likely. Nintendo put out (or will have) a Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Smash Bros, and Mario Kart within 18ish months of console launch. With the traditional long periods between each IPs release, I'm seriously hoping Nintendo starts a new IP in a new genre.

With that in mind, here are genres that Nintendo really does not have a majorly popular console franchise for:

RPG (pokemon RPGs tend to be for handhelds. super paper mario kept alot of traditional mario gameplay in it. Fire Emblem doesn't have mass market appeal.)

Shooter (Metroid Prime is mostly adventure. Geist flopped. DoD is in limbo? This leaves Nintendo an opening.)

Strategy (Pikmin never fully took off sales-wise, plus it's been a while since P2. It's a great game, but Nintendo has yet to begin to explore RTS with the WiiMote, which IMO, if proven with a good game or two here, could be the first actual threat to the PC's dominance of this genre...in gaming history really)

Sports. (WiiSport was nice and all, but it showed that Nintendo was onto something here. Sadly, such ideas I fear will become Mario spin-offs)

Music (Popularity of Guitar Hero and DDR should tell Nintendo to try something with this. I can't think of any true 1st party effort with this genre by anyone either. That can change tho)

Flight. (Pilotwings hasn't been seen in over a decade. The WiiMote is ideal for this genre. I know about StarFox, but I'm thinking along of the lines of Flight Simulator...kinda hopeful tho)

Ah no wonder Super Mario Galaxy is so good. Miyamoto actually Designed it himself.

Anyway I would wait for E3 2008 because most games aren't announced yet.

ithilgore2006

(I know he didn't design it, but he was a powerful mind behind the concepts, a key role)

I know nothing is announced, but I was hoping for some speculation or if anyone had any info I am unaware of.

Actually he was a key designer on the game, he stated this in an interview, for some reason he didn't have his name on many of the credits, by his request, but he was very much there for all the development as the leader, he says.

Which I don't doubt, a lot of the game is very Miyomoto-esque (i.e. very odd)

I stand corrected then...

Regardless, 2008 looks empty post MKWii release and so does Miyamoto's work day...but this seems unlikely.

A new Zelda Wii is rumored....HmmmmmSerbiam

I know. My figers are crossed, but I'd expect Nintendo to have been plugging this title more. We had how many years of TP news?

The lack of Nintendo doing that tells me it's not Zelda this Christma, but something else (Zelda maybe next year sometime).

Speculation? There are rumors of Nintendo bringing back Kid Icarus. With Factor 5 supposedly designing the graphics engine and Nintendo designing the Gameplay.

I'm aware of those. However, if F5 is doing it, how involved would/could he be? Except for M&S @ the Olympics, I can't think of a time where Miyamoto worked with 3rd parties. Has he done more of this?

Miyamoto has since 1990 (he didn't release anything in 1989) been involved with a number of projects released every year. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_games_created_by_Shigeru_Miyamoto if you want a complete list)

However, I have not been able to find anything about 2008. According to that link, SSBB was a Miyamoto project (producced), however, we know that he wasn't too deeply involved. WiiFit development has been complete for some time (it's out in Japan). Nintendo obviously wouldn't let someone like him sit around and do nothing- he's too valuable. All this plus Reggie's recent remarks about some sort of E3 Christmas suprise makes me wonder.

What do you all think? Could Christmas 2008 be another major Miyamoto project release? If so, what is/could be being developed?
