"Lloyd said GameStop does NOT have official pricing information from Microsoft or Sony, but EXPECTS a 'lower opening price point than they did last cycle.'"
Damn, so it's just speculation. For a moment my wallet started running around the house yelling YAY! :P
@SYTHULIN The only thing they said is that right now it is NOT backwards compatible; it *can be* in the future through Gaikai (which almost certainly would require a fee).
But as I said in another comment below, that's not the problem. The harsh reality is that these systems have entirely new artchitectures and it is not worth it to make the console more expensive with a feature that will only appeal to a small portion.
The main differences though are - Sony didn't cram a lot of TV and camera and whatever features into their presentation that could arguably also appeal only to a minor part of the audience - When asked, the Sony guys explained exactly why, in hardware terms, the PS4 does not have backwards compatibility. Meanwhile, Mattrick throws a number and pokes fun at other systems.
That attitude didn't help Sony in the past and I don't see how it will help MS now.
Sony didn't win any friends with pĂcking up on other people and systems during launch. Look at what it got them. And they did really dominate the previous generation then, so they had more reason to be snarky and slightly arrogant. The Xbox 360 barely escapes from being the last of the pack, so MS should be more careful.
@kljohns2 @crakrman Sure. Look at the presentation: TV, fantasy sports, TV, sports games, TV, racing game, TV, SmartGlass, Halo TV series, Call of Duty. The target audience is very clear and there are millions of them: slacker young males. These are brimming with excitement already. I saw some of these on social media and among friends.
It seems things will not change much in terms of target audience for all three systems. Nintendo will still attract a very niche core audience and some families worldwide, MS will still attract the DudeBros in America and not many people elsewhere, and Sony may still not be #1 in America but will fare way better in Europe, Latin America and Asia thanks to its more diverse approach.
