hmm wow I didn't know that...does this mean that enabling MLAA and disabling in game anti-aliasing would be the better option most of the time?
Redfet01's forum posts
okay thanks for the idea, MLAA refers to morphological filtering right? So about the 3 other settings for custom Anti aliasing I should just leave it at Multi-sample AA? ( which is the default setting )
yup agree with the above poster... flashing is not really hard if you follow the instructions in the thread. However having a custom fan curve is recommended if you want to flash your card, programs such as Sapphire Trixx or MSI Afterburner will allow changes to be made to the fan speed of the card.
For me what I did was use a shaders unlocked only bios of the 6950, then overclock the card to 6970 speeds using Sapphire Trixx, as well as making a custom fan curve. There is a batch file in the forum thread I have linked above which does the flashing of the 6950 automatically but it uses a 6970 bios. So what you have to do is find a shaders unlock only bios replace it within the batch file. A bit hard to explain over here you can search through the thread for more information.
Personally the 6950 is the most bang for the buck card right now in the market imo, especially if you game at 1920x1080 resolutions, because 1. it can be flashed to give you 6970 performance for quite a few bucks less 2. the only single GPU card faster than it is Nvidia's 580 which costs a whole lot more ( 6970 is neck to neck with 570 in most cases unless you count HAWX 2 ) 3. no other single GPU card is coming out in the near future, meaning you'll have the fastest single GPU card in ATI's arsenal
Even if you don't want to risk flashing, and have the money, I will still suggest getting a 6950 because it's performance in most cases is a mere 10% lesser than the 6970
yup got the sapphire one cause it came bundled with a free hdmi cable lol, and was one of the lower prices I could find :)
check out this thread for how to flash the 6950

Hi was just wondering do any of you guys actually use morphological filtering in place of the default anti-aliasing option within any games, if so mind sharing what kind of games would benefit more from ATI's morphological filtering rather than using it's own anti aliasing?
I'm currently playing Dead Space so would be interested to know if it can improve more via the custom filtering option.
Also what's the difference between enabling Morphological filtering and the 3 different kinds of AA ( Multi-sample AA, Adaptive Multi-Sample AA, Super Sample AA ) Thanks in advance for all replies!
strongly suggest getting a Sapphire 6950 2gb and flashing to unlock shaders only, then overclocking to 6970 clocks or whichever speeds make you happy :) I have a 6950 and it has flashed without any problems, been using for a month or so.
yup currently playing it now extremely atmospheric and balls out scary hahaha
haha okay thanks for all your opinions, think I'm gonna stick to my card at the moment
thanks for the replies will be looking closely at the secondhand market these few days. Another question I would like to ask is that I currently have a Cambridge DacMagic to serve as a dedicated dac, but I'm strongly considering selling it and buy a used soundcard to replace it. I'm able to sell the DacMagic for a pretty decent price, more than what I had got it for used, which is why I'm tempted to do. However would a good soundcard, say the more expensive Auzentech or Creative soundcards do a good job in terms of music?
