I doubt it, i can see them getting bigger but movies/games/books are very different forms of entertainment / narrative form that one will never really eclipse the others.
Side note - It has been strongly argued by historians that WW3 already happened. It was between the US and USSR/China and was fought via proxy in the southern hemosphere. The US supported all the rightwing forces (Argentina, Niceragua, Talibna etc) and the USSR/China supported the leftwing forces (Korea, Vietnam, Cuba etc). It went on untill the mid 80's, clocking up more deaths than WW1 & WW2, and was ended when the USSR/China could no longer financially support their armies (which for the USSR meant a colapse of the Soviet Union and for China a need to turn to increased capitalism). Both sides, scared **** about a nuclear exchange, spent a lot of time and PR on making it look like it wasn't happening. And as noone in their respective countries were dying, or the countries being invaded, they managed to keep it out of the public eye. So technically, if you subscribe to that theory, what you're refering to is WW4.
imo wait till the patch is out and you've heard if they actually got the game working. Not saying they cant do a good job of it this time but given their past history giving it a bit of time would be the plan rather than spending money on something that could be just as broken as before
