@P00DGE: I never said a diversified cast is wrong, that's why I'm not defending it. That's what you assumed it to be. My whole point is how there is a trend of replacing male figures and painting them in a bad light, which there is with a lot of examples I provided in this thread with you or other people.

And I wasn't even talking to you either, I was replying to someone else and then you inserted yourself in our discussion.

So, again, focus on my arguments, not why you think I made them.

@P00DGE: Then you have Captain Marvel, being all about the terrible influence white males have on women, or the Loki series where the older Loki is shown as the butt of the joke for the more competent and better female Loki, or Moon Knight where the female partner once she gets her powers she already knows how to do anything, read any language and is just superior, heck even Black Panther showing Wakanda as a superior society that still chooses their kings through battles to the death or a character saying she has to fix 'yet another broken white man'. It's not about being diverse, but showing one side as better than the other, that's why people consider it woke.

@P00DGE: "No more excuses, just admit that it bothers you that straight white men arent being used as the template for every single hero."

If you are unable to respond to my comments without projecting your own reasons, just don't say anything. Focus on the arguments I make next time, not why you think I made them.

@MDK4thewin: There is a trend. I understand your point regarding taking familiar characters and modifying them for a broader cultural audience, it's much easier to sell something you know. But as I said, it doesn't stop there. You have shows like Dr Who where they not only replace the history of of the character but most of it's villains are white men, shows like He-Man where the main character barely have any screen time. Or Star Wars where they even ruined old heroes like Luke Skywalker to pain Rey in a better light.

But at this point it's not about elevating other view points but doing so while diminishing and paint another as not only lesser but as the enemy, and then if anyone says anything, it's because we are offended or because we are bigots and racists. Around 10 years ago when someone would complain they would be mocked the same way to stop being offended.

And there were examples before of characters who worked to represent class, gender or culture without the need to come of as morally superior, Idris Elba's Luther for example, Blade in the comics, Ripley from Alien and so on, they were not as numerous I admit though.

I don't know, I just see the same problems as before painting a class as better at the expense of another, being perpetuated under a different flag and this diversity will come at the cost of more animosity, because when one side doesn't like it, whoever is controlling the narrative currently will make sure to diminish those complaints categorizing it as whinnying.

@MDK4thewin:It's become so widespread that it's difficult not to believe it's politically motivated, Captain America being replaced by a black character in the tv series and by a girl in a recent game, Thor being replaced by a woman in the upcoming movie, Iron man being replaced by a black young woman and so on. Then there are shows like Dr Who who changed the whole origin of the character to make sure it all started as a black woman, most of the villains are white men too. In Watchmen, most of the villains are white men, although admittedly that series does tackle racism in it's forefront, so it gets a pass, but then there is Dr Manhattan that turns into a black man then gives all of his powers to the main protagonist which is a black woman, Veidt who was the most intelligent character in the graphic novel, turned into a fool; or Jarl Haakon which was a black viking woman, something that realistically would have happened wit that level of acceptance it's hard not to believe there is some politics involved when it's such a widespread phenomenon in so many shows recently.

And as it was mentioned you don't see the inverse happening, sure, I don't want to see Nelson Mandela being played by Tom Hanks, but, why have a black actress play Anne Boleyn, which isn't exactly a culturally blank figure.

@P00DGE: Ah true, but no one here is saying it drives all of their decision, I'm merely pointing that Twitter has power and a lot of influence and it's foolish to ignore it.

With the power of has to influence and work as an advertisement tool the experts definitely take into consideration the climate of any potentially disruptive discussion of their brand.

@P00DGE: Disney's experts might, Netflix's experts not so much. Still, my point stands, these companies fear Twitter outrage.
