Had a lot of fun with both, but while the N64 was better-known and sold more consoles, I'll take the GameCube. Cheaper system to build a collection of games with, a variety of quality and deeply memorable games instead of the N64's stable of great games that spanned only a few different genres. Sorry N64 fans.
Yes, the GameCube is going to die. Which is what I wish would happen to everyone who opened another one of these forum topics. Seriously, let's talk about something else that's GameCube-related.
It's not exactly the "proper time", as the console is now obviously out of the spotlight, but I see GameCubes with cords, controllers, and memory cards on eBay for $20-$35, and I know GameStop/EB Games sell them for $60 w/money back guarantee. Metroid Prime is six bucks, F-Zero is eight.. yeah, definitely a good idea to do it now, because the games are drying up.
I have nothing to say about the resale value of a GameCube, it's a topic that's been beat to death on this forum, I just thought I'd say that the guy who started this topic, the Manning fan, is literally developmentally disabled.
Fire Emblem, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, Medal of Honor: Frontline, TimeSplitters 2, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Hitman 2, Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, and Soul Calibur II are all worth consideration, depending on your interests. Whatever you do, ignore LanceUppercut7's list, it's garbage.
Yes, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, and Paper Mario: TTYD are great RPGs (although I played more of the N64 Paper Mario), but I've got to give Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance some forum time. Great battle system, interesting story and dialogue, and the mortality of each character adds to the strategy. ToS, Baten Kaitos, and Fire Emblem are all ahead of FF:CC, I'm afraid.
You have to play more games. Not being a jerk they are good but you can find better. 1.RE4 2.Zelda WW 3.SSBM 4.Viewtiful Joe 5.TOS I have played other games, i just prefer mario games over them. But if this was top 5 ps2 games it would be a whole different story.
