PS3 games-- What should I get??

So my mother and I were talking about getting a PS3, right? Well, it looks I'll most likely be getting one for Christmas this year, and here's why:

My parents are divorced, and so I pretty much get two Christmases a year, and this year my main Christmas will be at my dad's, and my second Christmas will be at my mom's, and my brother and I kept asking my mom about a PS3, so here's what she decided: She's going to get the PlayStation Move for Christmas if my other siblings are interested (which they most likely will be). "omgz, ps move is a wii rip off! u betrayed teh wii!!!11" Right? Well... no. Not exactly.

Believe me, I love having a Wii, but the PlayStation Move is the ONLY way I'm getting a PS3. I didn't decide that, my mother did. She thinks that the PS Move will be a great family gift. No my family hasn't grown to hate the Wii and its non HD capabilities. We love the Wii, we use it all the time. My mother, however, thinks that the PS Move would be a great family gift because it's like the Wii, but it has more accurate motion sensing and it can do more than the Wii, and my mother thinks it looks like fun based on the footage she has seen. And ever since she came up with this idea, she has been browsing the crap out of Amazon for games to buy for the system that my siblings might like. She said that since the PS Move would take up such a huge chunk of Christmas, she will allow us to get one game each. But then that gave me an idea. I asked her if she could get two used games for the price of one, and she said that would be fine. So now I need to decide what to get... I'm aiming to get two PS3 games, but I'm just not sure which two I should get. Here are the games that I'm trying to decide on:

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction BoxshotRatchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time BoxshotLittleBigPlanet BoxshotFinal Fantasy XIII BoxshotValkyria Chronicles Boxshot

If you've played any of these games (except forLittleBigPlanet2- it's not even out yet), I would like to know your thoughts on them.

Just so you all know, this doesn't mean the end of me being a Nintendo fan. I will still play Nintendo games (probably more-so than PlayStation games), so worry not; I will never hate Nintendo (unless if they give Mario the Sonic treatment).

Super Mario Bros. 3: I finally get it now...

As some of you might remember, I've said a few times that I don't like Super Mario Bros. 3. I downloaded it from the Virtual Console a few months ago, played it, got frustrated with it, and stopped playing it for a few months. Recently, I started playing it again after I learned how to get the warp whistles, and so once I started playing it again, and you know what? I actually enjoyed it A LOT. I finally get why people like it so much now. It's the best Super Mario Bros. game, but I still love Super Mario Bros. 2 (more so than the original SMB). I still like Super Mario World more, but I still love Super Mario Bros 3. It's tough, and it can be a tad bit frustrating at times, but it's still one of the best Mario games ever. Once I got used to its difficulty and became more patient with it, I grew to like it a lot.

Aside from my babbling about SMB3, I've been contemplating my next DS purchase. I'm trying to decide between Yoshi's Island DS, Pokemon Platinum, Pokemon Heart Gold, and Sonic CIassic Collection. What do you guys think? Whatever I decide to get will be my last purchase of the year, so I need to decide wisely.

Fifth-generation games I plan on getting

Hello everyone. I've been very busy with school, sports, and friends so I haven't had a lot of time to make any blog posts. I'll post as often as I can though.

Anyways, back when I was a young child, I owned an N64 and unfortunately I didn't get a say in the majority of the games that were purchased for it because of how young I was. And because of this, I had to rely on squeezing every last drop of enjoyment out of games like Paper Mario and Super Mario 64.

Times are different now, however, and now I plan on purchasing more fifth generation games to play on my N64, and my PS1. Here's the list:

Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie

Banjo-Kazooie BoxshotBanjo-Tooie Boxshot

These are games that I wish I owned as a child, but unfortunately I've never played them. And since I don't own an Xbox 360 (and probably never will) and I am unable to download these from the XBLA, I decided that I'm just going to get my dad or someone to order them from the internet for me so I can play them on my old N64.

Donkey Kong 64

Donkey Kong 64 Boxshot

I never owned this game when I was little, and I wish I did. I've recently been playing the DKC games, and now I really want to play this. I doubt that it's going to come to the Virtual Console any time soon, so this is another one that I'm going to get from the internet to play on my N64.

Kirby 64

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards Boxshot

Aside form the SSBB trial version of Kirby's Adventure, I've never actually played a Kirby game, but this one looks fun, so I plan on downloading it from the VC sometime soon.

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back BoxshotCrash Bandicoot 3: Warped Boxshot

After playing the first Crash Bandicoot, I've been wanting to playthe other games of the original trilogy. My brother recently borrowed the 3rd one from this friend, and it's actually pretty fun, so I plan on getting these from the internet.

I'm still trying to decide whether or not I should get any of the Final Fantasy games (for the PS1), or Chrono Cross, but that's my list for now.

An update on life + some game impressions

High school is starting to get better... A LOT better. I've finally re-grouped with my friends, and swim season is just around the corner. My period of gloominess has finally come to an end. I enjoy most of my classes, and the days go by rather quickly now.

As for gaming, I actually have had more time for gaming than I thought. I haven't had too much homework, and I've had plenty of time for gaming.

Now onto the game impressions:

Crash Bandicoot

I recently discovered I owned this a couple of weeks ago, and it's quite fun. I blogged about it not too long ago, and I've played it more now, and I haven't gotten very far yet, but it's pretty good. The controls took a bit of getting used to, and now my only complaint about this game is the horrendous save system.

Luigi's Mansion

I borrwed this game from a friend and it's... good, I guess. It's rather simplistic, and maybe a little too easy, but it's a fun little game. It is somewhat obnoxious that every single song in the game is just the same song remixed though.

Metroid Prime

This game is really good. Normally I hate FPSes, but this game is just plain awesome. Buy it if you haven't already.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

I hated this game at first, but it has grown on me quite a bit. It's very dark, and also very compelling. If you've never played it before, then I suggest you do. It's really good.

Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story

I didn't like this game at first either, but I've actually grown to like it. It's a lot better than your average RPG.

Okami

Eh... Well... It's okay so far I guess. I applaud the amazing visual style and Celestial Brush idea, but I don't find it to be very fun. No I'm not a Sony fanboy that hates seeing a PS2 game on the Wii. I just don't think it's amazing like most people say it is. It's gradually getting better though.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

I was originally curious to try to the DKC series when my friend told me that the first one was his favorite game of all-time, and I played the first one and I thought it was amazing. A couple of days ago, I helped my parents out with some cleaning and my mom redeemed 1000 Wii Points as a reward for helping out, so I bought DKC2 and it's fantastic! It's a lot better than the first one, and I think it's even better than Super Mario World. That's just my opinion though.

My first day of high school...

High school years really define what people become. It's the time of everyone's life where they choose which path in their life they're going to take. It's the time where some don't give a crap about getting an education anymore, or the time when people start to take school seriously. Junior high/middle school is the seemingly long period of mixed emotions, but high school is where people set their emotions and decisions straight and generally only stay to those emotions and decisions.

In the area I live in, you don't go to high school until you're in 10th grade, and I just started high school today. It's somewhat depressing to be in high school already. It seems like it was only yesterday that I was in elementary school. Sometimes I wish I could just rewind time and go back to the easier days of my life.

It felt so weird and unnatural going into a high school. It was so crowded, and there were so many unfamiliar faces. I had no idea of where to even think of looking for my friends. There are still some friends of mine that I haven't even seen yet.

The classes I'm taking aren't all that bad I guess. The only one that I don't like is P.E. No I'm not alazytub of lard, I do sports and all, but the class itself is not going to be all that fun. None of my friends are in it, and I'm not too fond of the teachers.

During lunch, my friends and I met up in the cafeteria and nibbled onthe cat lard and goat breats that the school served. Nah, just kidding, it wasn't cat lard and goat breasts. It was only half as bad. Anyways, my friends really haven't changed all that much.In fact, most of the people I know I haven't changed at all.

School is keeping me busy now, and once swim season comes around, I'm going to have hardly any time at all for gaming or GameSpot... I'll be too busy with homework and swimming to get in any time for gaming. Hopefully I won't be too busy though, but I'm still going to be pretty busy for the most part.

I hope things will turn out better as the semester goes on though. According to my peers, high school years are going to be either the best or worst years of my life. These years will be the last years of my childhood, so I just have to make the best of my classes and friends.

Got a PS1 + Crash Bandicoot

A couple of years ago, my younger brother went bargain shopping with my grandmother (he was bored and wanted something to do)and he found a PlayStation 1 for only four dollars. There were no games included with it, however, but my parents bought him a CD case that contained a few PlayStation games within it. I had no interest in using the PS1 at the time of its purchase, and my brother lost interest in it so it was tucked away in a drawer and practically forgotten... that is until now.

I was curious about using it, and I asked my brother why he never used it. He claimed that we had no good games for it. I decided to test that claim for myself and look the CD case that contained the PS1 games, and I stumbled upon this game:

Crash Bandicoot

Crash Bandicoot Boxshot

I've always loved 3D platformers, and so I decided to give it a try. And you know what? It's actually really fun. The level designs aren't as open and exploratory as they are in Super Mario 64, but instead they're more linear. It plays like a difficult old-school side-scrolling game, but it's in 3D. It's really quite fun. I do have a couple of complaints about it though:

1. The controls don't use the analog stick. Instead you use the d-pad or whatever it's called. This can make the game feel punishingly difficult at times.

2. The save system is inconvenient. You can only save if you clear a Bonus Stage or get a gem, but just because you reach a Bonus Stage doesn't mean you're going to be able to save because sometimes you'll randomly fall off the platforms of the Bonus Stages.

3. The difficult can feel punishing at times. This game gets hard quick, and the lack of save points and rugged controls make it feel even harder than it already is.

Other than though, this game really is fun. I can't get past the stupid Ripper Roo boss though because I keep dying over and over again, and I keep having to start from the Native Gate whenever I get a game over.

Other games that were found in the CD case were just a bunch of sports games, which I have no interest in checking out because I hate sports games. There was one other game that I found that might just be worth playing, and that game is:

Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!

Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! Boxshot

I'm not really sure if I should play this quite yet because I don't have the first Spyro game. Perhaps I'll ask for one of my parents to order it used from the internet for me for Christmas this year.

Playing the fifth generation platformers has made me want to get Banjo Kazooie/Tooie and Donkey Kong 64, but for the time-being, I'm not buying anymore video games from now until the end of Septembmer; maybe longer. I have a lot of games I can play right now, so I should be occupied for a while.

The sumer of 2010 finally comes to an end...

School starts next week, and so my time of boredom and ample free-time will come to an end,and I'm glad for that becuase I'm sick of not having a life. This fall I'll be joining my school's swim team, so I'll finally be busy with something. I'll also be busy with homework and such. This unfortunately means I may not enough time for gaming, but oh well. That's why we have weekends, right?

I've had a good amount of fun this summer. Most of it has consisted and hanging out with friends and playing video games. Having too much free-time has made me feel very lazy though, and it kind of made me a bit depressed. Laziness = depression. Hopefully being inschool will help get rid of my depressed mood. I'm sick of being lazy.

I'll be turning 16 this year, which means I'll finally be able to drive and get a job. My mom also told me that she'll let me play M-rated games when I'm 16(Conker'sBad Fur Day awaits). Ialso promised my mom I won't make any video games purchases for the rest of thismonth, or in September. I'm trying to save up money for college at this point.

Anyways, I'll be gladto get back into school. On a side note, I beat Super Mario World just a couple of nights ago, very great game. My favorite Virtual Console download thus far.

That's all for now. I now my blog posts haven't been very good lately, but I don't really have much to blog about for the moment, but I will in the future.

Games that deserve a sequel

There are some games that deserve sequels, you know? To start the list:

Conker's Bad Fur Day

Conker's Bad Fur Day Boxshot

I haven't played this game yet (I will when I'm 16 though), but I've watched my brother play parts of it, and it looks insanely funny and fun. Unfortunately, I don't think we're going to get a sequel to this game because Rare doesn't focus on platforming anymore.

Sonic Heroes

Sonic Heroes Boxshot

Unlike most of the gimmicky Sonic games, Heroes had a gimmick that actually worked fairly well. The tag-team mechanics were actually fun, and you don't dread playing as the Sonic characters for once. If they made a sequel to this game, I think they should allow you to customize your team however you want to so you aren't forced to play as characters you don't want to, and so you don't have to play through the game four times...

Super Mario Sunshine

Super Mario Sunshine Boxshot

Super Mario Sunshine was a game that had so much un-touched potential it wasn't even funny. If a sequel were to be made, I believe it shouldn't have F.L.U.D.D attatched to you the whole time, but instead it should be a special power-up that has a different ability depending on the level design; kind of like what Galaxy did.

Ice Climber

Ice Climber Boxshot

Although Ice Climber hasn't aged well, I still think it deserves a sequel. If it did get a sequel, I'm not sure how exactly it would go over, but it seems like it could be pretty good if done right.

Ristar

Ristar Boxshot

Another game I haven't played, though I plan on it, but it looks like it has a unique idea, and its unique idea could possibly work well in 3D. I don't think this game will ever get a sequel though, but it would still be cool to see.

Shadow the Hedgehog/Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)

Shadow the Hedgehog BoxshotSonic the Hedgehog Boxshot

These games were great, and they need a sequel. They're VERY underrated!

You didn't actually think I was serious about Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 06 did you?

As for the rest of the games, they deserve a sequel in my opinion.

Two (very) unexpected game purchases

My brother and I were going out to lunch with my mom today (we don't get to spend a lot time with her), and before we went to lunch my mom made a quick stop at a store, and so I decided to make a quick stop at a game store nearby and look at the used GameCube games.

Upon my browsing, I saw Metroid Prime for five dollars. I promised myself I wouldn't buy any games for a while (I'm trying to save my money at the moment), but five dollars was too good to pass up. I asked my mom if she would be willing to buy it since it was only five dollars, and she was more than happy to buy it for me since I usually don't ask her to buy video games for me.Upon getting the game, my brother saw Mario Superstars Baseball on the same shelf that Metroid Prime was on, and it was fifteen dollars, and my mom bought that as well.

Once I got home, I played a bit of Metroid Prime and I must say, it's better than I expected. I normally don't like FPSes but it's actually really good. It reminds of Halo in a way, but it's a lot better. I remember playing Halo years ago at my friend's house, but I found it to be not as good as everyone exaggerated it to be. Anyways, I had been considering getting the Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Wii, but if you buy all the games used, it's cheaper than getting the trilogy because the trilogy is around sixty bucks. Anyways, five bucks was an absolute steal for Metroid Prime, especially because my mom bought it. :P

As for Mario Superstars Baseball, my brother wanted it because he had previously played the Wii version at his friend's house. I've played this game with friends before, and it's not all that bad, but it's not really one of the better Mario sports games. I guess it will be nice to own it though, especially when I didn't have to pay for it.

Anyways, it was nice that my mom bought those games. She usually NEVER does that. The only other time she bought my brother and I a game at a time other than a holiday was about a year ago when she bought Super Smash Bros. Brawl for my brother and me. It was very nice of her though, and I'm very grateful she did it.

The games that I've beaten over the summer

School starts in a couple of weeks, and my summer has consisted of two things: friends and video games. Besides the vacation I went on this summer, I've had a pretty un-eventful summer, so I spent a lot of time playing video games; so I decided to make a blog post about the games I beat over the summer. To start it off:

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Boxshot

I didn't collect all 240 stars, but I collected the necessary amount to beat Bowser and defeated him. I didn't beat it all the way through, but I still completed the main part of the game, so I guess it counts.

Super Mario 64

Super Mario 64 Boxshot

I've owned this game since I was a young child, but I never got around to beating the final Bowser, so I decided it was time to pull out my Nintendo 64. I believe I had around 43 stars, and all in one day, I earned 27 stars in order to get to the final Bowser. I haven't touched my cartridge ever since. Although this is an amazing game, I'm a bit burned out on it now because I played it for so many hours straight, and I still have yet to recover from that one mission where that stupid snowman head that blows you off the icy bridge if you aren't covered by that stupid penguin...

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Boxshot

After putting off beating this game for a few months, I decided it was finally time to buckle down and beat it. After beating it, I decided it truly deserves all of the praise it gets. Calling it "one of the greatest games of all time" isn't an exaggeration at all.

Donkey Kong Country

Donkey Kong Country Boxshot

My brother was nice enough to buy this from the Virtual Console for me, and I'm glad he did. This game is really fun, and it gave me a gooddose of old-school difficulty. I'm looking forward to downloading the next two DKC games from the Virtual Console, and I'm also really excited for DKC Returns which should come out in a few months.

Sonic Advance

Sonic Advance Boxshot

I beat this during the vacation I took this summer, and it's definitely a good Sonic title. It may be a bit on the easy side, but it still provides a good amount of speed and fun.

Sonic Rush

Sonic Rush Boxshot

Although I hated the boss fights, this game is another good Sonic title. It has an insane sense of speed, and a strange, but catchy, soundtrack. If you're a Sonic fan and you miss the old-school Sonic goodness, do yourself a favor and buy this game.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Boxshot

I loved this game. It's probably my favorite Wii game right now. If you're a Zelda fan and you haven't played this game, then I recommend you do.

And that concludes this blog post.
