@harlow86

I second harlow86! There are of course exceptions! However, there is the general trend that female characters are depicted in a problematic manner!! Once again, why do we have a whole bunch of guys insisting on the absence of the problem when a lot of girls and some guy like me obviously agree with the article~ The problem doesn't cease to exist just because you are ignorant or unaffected by it !

As I have stated earlier, I respect her efforts to "look critically at the games we play", as I believe that reviews are necessary for improving any medium of art. I know a lot of female gamers who agree with the author's point. In fact, I agree with her as well. I think it's stupid that we have a whole bunch of men here, talking about how girls "ought" to feel or stating that gender equality in no longer an issue inside or beyond the gaming world! Maybe that's why so many outsiders refuse to take video games or gamers seriously~

@Gravelord_Nito She pointed out an important aspect of the video game industry! I really don't understand what you mean by "upholding the standard for everyone". She is voicing a valid concern. That said, she ask for a fair representative for female characters in game; it's not like she wants to get rid of male characters. She asks for equal balance, not female domination!

@psuedospike why is that? Why couldn't you disagree with me more? I followed the link and saw a few more videos! Granted that I have been exposed to feminist messages in the past, over all, I agree with her.

I'll be first to say that I really enjoy reading this article! I love the interviewee's quote: "I want to promote media literacy and give people some tools to look critically at the games we play"! If we ever want video games to be accepted as a medium of art, that's exactly what we need to do - to critically examine our games as a form of art. Unfortunately too many comments here just reminded me why video games are not taken seriously~

Great job! Should have been written a long time ago :-)

Look, when ask what he would like (20:12), Tom McShea had nothing to say besides "I am not a game designer, I mean... everybody has one life..." He really has no answers. It's a lot easier to criticize someone than coming up with a solution!!

In my opinion, Tom McShea has always been a cynical ass to everyone including his colleagues! He makes me want to turn away from Gamespot from time to time. Greg Goodrich seems like a good developer who actually cares about honoring the military servicemen who dedicate themselves to this country!

I've never been in a war, but I've been in the military, soI hope it's fair for me to say this. If you are willing to follow Tom's argument that war is hell, not fun, "why you are trying to make this a fun experience" 7:50, then there is really no point to make ANY game about wars!!
