Because using the blu-ray in conjunction with the hard drive yields significantly lower load times than the 360. The ps3 can essentially transfer data anywhere from 4 - 8 times as much data using its hard drive. I would like to see a link for your story. I do not believe they needed the hard drive, but they probably said it would be much easier. It doesn't matter if the ps3 needs a hard drive, because every ps3 comes with one, unlike the 360. So, while we have the option to use a hard drive with our games, you don't. And don't say anything about 5GB installs, that was pure developer laziness, as many games have proven. I don't believe uncharted has any installs and it is the most beautiful game on consoles along with short load times.

Anyway, I'd expect first party titles such as Killzone 2, God of War 3 and Shadow of the Collosus 2 etc to prove the PS3 is more powerful than the 360. Multiplats are never the best way to judge a console's power.
