This is far more complicated to build than a computer
But I guarantee the vast majority of gamers here have built lego sets before.
There's just an ever-lasting stigma about PCs that leads people to think they're complicated. I don't know where it was born from though.
[QUOTE="Bebi_vegeta"][QUOTE="CanYouDiglt"]If I bought it prebuilt it would have either cost far more or it would have been far worse.CanYouDiglt
Cost ''alot'' when you start and then it gets less expensive with parts upgrades. But then you have a machine that can do everything.
console gaming in general is FAR FAR cheaper. I would not have done all of this if I did not need another PC anyways. Even if I bought a PC around the same price as a console or even $500 it would not last long . $90 PSU $330 cpu I got the 2600k but should have got 2500k $270 gpu $90 case $47 ram $150 monitor $35 cpu cooler and so on Do not get me wrong I love my new comp and I am very glad to have it but this things are not cheap. I even want to upgrade in around 6 months. It's as cheap as you want it to be.
I'm still rocking a three year old PC I bought for $600. I just played some Crysis Warhead last night on "Gamer" settings with AA at 1680x1050 resolution.
Is it max? Naaaaaah, but I'm not really a Crysis fanatic myself, so I'm not going to choose to upgrade for this game.
However, on the comment about console gaming being cheaper, is it really so? If you only buy a single console, and rent every game, then I could see it being the case, however the PC gets way way more exclusives than the consoles do. In fact Gamespot has reviewed as many high scoring PC games as the 360/PS3/Wii have got combined this gen alone. However, Gamespot is incredibly understaffed in terms of PC reviewers, and plenty of games come out that never get reviewed.
If you want access to as many games, and features as a PC gamer you just can't do it even if you own three consoles.
HTPCs in the living room.
Nintendo/MS/Sony no longer develop hardware, but instead release their own software clients to distribute their games and services (like Steam).
Actually it is better, and there's crap load of a difference between 480p and 720p. You have to be visually crippled not to see that.[QUOTE="SW__Troll"]
No, there's zero different in having over twice the pixel density.
It's all in the marketing. The same people who tricked us all into thinking 720p was better than 480p are the same people trying to trick us now into thinking 1080p is better than 720p.Rich people always out to exploit the poor. World makes me sick sometimes.

I must apologize for my sarcasm.

"It's no big deal building your own PC"
I'm sorry but this is a bogus argument that could be applied to anything. What if you went to the store to buy a T-Shirt and on the way to the cashier, somone stopped you and said "hey don't buy that shirt! Just buy a loom and weave your own shirt!". Or the same could be applied to your car, or your house or literaly any product. See for some people it isn't a big deal to build their own PC; the other 99.9% of the population has no need or desire to build one. Most people wouldn't even consider it. Someone who's adept at building gaming PC's might be able to slap one together in 10 minutes. For somone else it could take days. A console works right out the box. Go to the store buy the console. Done. No finding deals for parts on new egg waiting for them to ship then building the damn thing. That takes time and time is money. I'm not even going to talk about incompatability issues, OS issues driver issues because somone will try and say it's comarable to console patch updates. It's not. Not even close. But even in ignoring that hassle the idea that constructiong your own computer is a simple and viable solution for all people is disingenuous.

darn. you're right. if only there was a way to buy a pre-built pc. that could be worth a fortune.
And therin lies the conundrum of the PC vs Console debate. The cost divide.
The PC enthusiasts who argue that gaming on PC "is not that much more expensive than console", are basing that argument under the assumption of self built from researched parts bought on online bargain hunts.
Now sure you can go to a store like BestBuy or Futureshop (or even ordered via Dell) and pick up a pre-built box set off the shelf same way people get their consoles. But if it's a gaming capable PC we're talking about here, not just good for internet, word, xcel, and maybe some light photo editing, that $500-600 model made by HP, Acer, VAIO, Gateway or another name brand ain't gonna do the job. For a boxed ready to go PC that you get off the shelf to game on (assuming high standard games like Crysis, Total War, Skyrim, etc..) now you're looking at anywhere from $1000-1500, depending on just how much rev is under that hood.
That's the kind of cost too high for the "get it from a box" crowd, which has them turning to the affordable and convenient consoles.
Here's a pretty nifty set of videos from Newegg which oversees picking out parts, building it, and installing software.

It's about two hours in total to watch total, but it also goes at a slow pace for the newbies to computer building.
I'm going to assume that everyone in this thread has wasted more than two hours of their life on Gamespot posting mindless dribble, so if they just take two hours out of their normal Gamespot time to watch those videos then they too could become computer pros.
Given how much money you can save, and how much computer knowledge you gain in the process, two hours doesn't seem like such a bad trade-off imo. Not to mention gaining cheap access to the wonderful world of PC gaming.
If you're brand-loyal to just one company, yeah, you're a casual gamer, deal with it. You're just using your loyalty as an excuse to be lazy and not try new systems and games.
Bigboi500
You really just said that?
My point is that PC gaming isn't as cheap nor is it as easy as Hermits say it is.
ShadowMoses900
It's not as cheap, or as easy as hermits say it is? That statement confuses me. Do you have proof that they're lying?
