Minus the graphics, it was just another formulaic movie and some will argue it being too much on the dot in that way. It wasn't thought provoking at any point; it was more the opposite you basically know what's going to happen next. It was alright. I liked the eye candy and the actions scenes were good, but that's as far as it goes for me.

Awesome, thanks for the replies!

It is going to be kind of intimidating going into the shop at first.

Don't worry about it. If it is a good shop they'll treat you well. Just say you are starting out and usually they will recommend good guitars or guitar packs that are around or even below your price range. I forgot that you are going for an acoustic so you don't really need to buy much except a pick, and perhaps a strap and some guitar cleaning supplies, but those two can be held off for the time being it's not immediately important.

I agree with some posters above, start off slow. Don't worry about being fast. That comes naturally with time. Just make sure you hit your notes cleanly and clearly. Also, I recommend learning sheet music (it's not hard :)) because it helps in understanding what you are actually playing and in keeping time. Those two are usually overlooked by starters but are important and can lead you to become a better instrumentalist. Plus if you want to deviate from guitar to piano or drums it would be way easier. You never know maybe you'll get into a band.

Good luck, be patient and have fun. :)

First guitars don't really matter so long as it is properly set up (get to this later), but since you are buying it is best that you try one in stores so you get the most bang for you buck with a $400 guitar. A hundred dollar guitar can suffice too and you can use the extra cash for accessories or other equipment. A lot of places are really helpful in giving you honest advice when you tell them you are starting out.

As for set up some shops offer it for free and some charge, but what that means is having the guitar basically be playable: making sure strings are close enough to the frets for comfort and no fret buzz, making sure everything is working right as it should be, strings are in tune, etc. Sure you can do these but given that you are starting out let professionals do it.

As for lessons generally people learn scales first (Major, Minor, etc.), whether that be single notes or chords. Usually the variation is determined by hand size ie. single notes are learned by children since it is hard to make proper chords or just plain preference. Practice your scales because they help in keeping form and understanding theory. Read up on it first and understand them then practice them. Try that for now.

Taqwacore. It's a book about Islam punk. It's interesting so far...though admittedly the language can be challenging.

Wario from Wario Land 3. Nostalgia gets me every time. My favourite game from childhood. Hell, it still kicks ass now.

Not really, they just have mood swings depending on the time of the month.

gago-gago

That's way overused. What women do you hang out with? :P I rarely if even ever experienced that with women around me. I don't know, but I feel that mood swings in relation to women tend to be exaggerated.

And yeah I agree that women aren't really complicated. They really aren't.

I have a Washburn X-Series. It looks great and played well, but now I want new pickups for it and maybe change the tuners as well. Here it is though it's not my photo:

Washburn X-Series Skull Art

I'm thinking of getting a new guitar, but I want a versatile one with good tuners around the ~$400 range since I'm strapped for cash right now. Any recommendations? I was thinking of Schecter.

Flute's perfect for her birthday, but the model-for-a-day present is not a good present whether she is into modelling or not since you are then forcing it upon her, whether that be the actual photo session, time schedule changes, etc. even if she has mentioned the idea herself beforehand in wanting to do something like that. Those things you have to plan together.
