[QUOTE="Senge"]Sweet another Deftones fan. Pink Maggit is probably my favourite song of theirs. But, man, Back to School (Mini Maggit) is tight in its own right though that's probably my love of PM talking. Either way all versions of White Pony are awesome.BiancaDK

Back to School was Deftones showing how easy it is to make a hit single. They didn´t really pour their hearts into it, they just showed the record label what´s what, so they´d get off their backs. Or so i´m informed, atleast. True or false, either way it portrays well in this song that this could have been made by any decent nu metal band, sporting no deeper artistic feel to it. But technically, the song is indeed tighter than a ladyboy.

And yeah, White Pony is just flat-out awesome, overall. :3

Yes that's true, though I don't think any band could've done as good a "cover" of Pink Maggit. I've always seen it that since Pink Maggit had so much heart to it already that I felt it with Back to School too since it cannot exist without the former. Whether the band did put heart into it or not I wouldn't know, but I have to admit it was more straightforward in its delivery of boosting you up. As Chino put it both songs are meant to be triumphant.

My family got me "The Taqwacores" by Michael Muhammad Knight for Christmas. It's about Islam Punk (there's also a documentary on it; pretty interesting). I haven't gone far yet at all since holiday break has been so busy.

Note that Deftones is my favourite band because I love all their songs to date. Rare I know but I'm not kidding. :) So it's a hard pick for me...plus they're one of those bands that has a song for every mindset or mood you're up for.

Band: Deftones

Best Song: My Own Summer (Shove It) (Deftones standard with their hard/soft dynamic, lyrically interesting, atmospheric, etc.)

Worst Song: Mein (Serj Tankian is a guest vocalist here, but unlike their excellent song "Passenger" with Maynard James Keenan of Tool it felt like Serj wasn't catered to; as in anyone could've done his vocals and it's the worst singles release to promote their latest album which was variedly great.)

Hitman is one of my fav. game series ever. With all the changes that's happened this past year I really do hope they won't mess it up. Here's hoping the wait will result in a good game.

[QUOTE="just_nonplussed"]

because old, male fuddy-duddies in positions of power (broadcasters etc.) don't want women to be in control of their sexuality. if a nipple is shown on television or in a film, then it's a 'bad' thing, to be feared or hidden away; women should be ashamed of their bodies, and given less freedom and power. television is used to control ideas about what is right and wrong. pubic hair for example, is supposed to make women appear stronger.

also, lots of mothers and parents in general would write in and complain to whatever media outlet is showing these images.. which means very small ratings and audiences for those shows, games, and films.

it's pretty much nonsense.. think how it might affect boys growing up, to fear girls. i don't know, it's extreme conservatism and fear, but it's also about power and control.

just_nonplussed

You have a pretty weird and rather extreme take on this unless you're joking. Anyway...how does pubic hair even denote power? I've always seen being less hairy from a hygenic/attractive viewpoint. Someone has an inferiority issue... :P

Concerning sex I can understand. Children do not yet know, understand or can relate to their sexuality or the perceptions of sex. They have a chance of screwing up their view on how a man or woman should be, ie. think women are just objects, you have to be all muscled up/hariless to be attractive, sadism, etc.

Vulgarity the concern comes with what the word means, such as the F-word which is again connected to sex in the bad light.

Both are arguably linked to violence in one form or another.

well, i do think media, especially t.v, controls ideas of reality and crops the full picture, streamlining it for majority audiences.

That's rather obvious...though note it's not always intentional; no one or any body of persons can portray a complete take or view on events. How does that relate to what I asked/even posted though? You seem to miss that I'm referring to you weird interpretation of the reasons for filtering.

Since it's Marvel Entertainment Inc. and not Marvel Publishing, Inc. I'm not too worried.

1984 is an awesome read, George Orwell of course. Also Catch 22 is a good book, I can't remember the auther unfortunately.Gally66

I agree with George Orwell recommendations; you learn a lot. And Catch-22's author is Joseph Heller. He continued with Closing Time but it wasn't as well received or it came with mixed feelings.
