[QUOTE="ShadowtheDark"][QUOTE="Pearl_of_Egypt"][QUOTE="ShadowtheDark"][QUOTE="sSubZerOo"][QUOTE="Pearl_of_Egypt"]Islam is not peaceful. It is contradicting and you will find lots of violent passages against "unbelievers"
Examples:
9:5 Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
9:73O Prophet! Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites! Be harsh with them. Their ultimate abode is hell, a hapless journey's end.
9:123O ye who believe! Fight those of the disbelievers who are near to you, and let them find harshness in you, and know that Allah is with those who keep their duty (unto Him).

Please before you quote an iyat in the Quran look into the history of it. Research the life of Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) and the struggle with the people of Mecca you might understand.
the situation doesn't make it okay to say things like that because the problem is that these passages are still used today and they don't just address the particular situation of the time, they address Muslims as a whole and how they should behave.
Ok logically speaking if the Quran teaches violence, do you in your schoolhave muslims going up to you codemning and striving against you?
I never said all Muslims were violent, the majority are not. however, the religion is violent. why is it that whenever anyone questions or criticizes the Quran, you'll get an abundance of violent protests? why is it that if someone converts from Islam to something else it is lawful to kill them? I do believe most Muslims are peaceful, and I have nothing against them as half my family is Muslim. I was taught both Chrsitianity and Islam. however I believe Islam promotes violence. choosing Christianity, I have to keep my family name secret when I visit the middle east, lest anyone find out it is a Muslim one but I am Christian, so as to avoid something bad happening to me. Islam also promotes violence against women.
so yes, most Muslims are peaceful, but there are radicals who are going too far right now and using the Quran to justify themselves, hence why those particular verses I brought up irk me.
Okay the radicals are an exception since they are confused and misunderstand the quran and its verses. You cannot blame Islam for the fact that you are scared to be persecuted in the middle east. This is the government and or arab culture there is no official islamic state in the world at the moment so no country in the world directly represents islam.
